“Beware - increased our room rate without warning when we checked out!”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

Overall the stay was ok although the booking had been taken incorrectly (2 gents offered a double bed room when we asked for a twin single bef room) but the problem was resolved quickly with the addition of a camp bed in the room.
The cooked breakfast were nice.
Problems arised however when we came to leave and pay our bill. The proprietor proceeded to increase the room rate which added another £15 to our bill for the inclusion of the rickety camp bed (even though on the website the rates for a double room are the same for a twin room). It isn't a massive increase in the bill but that is not the point we should have been told that there would be an increase in our room rate when the error of the booking came to light as we were on a tight budget having spent 4 days at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Because of this extra charge without warning I would not recommend a stay here and we will certainly not be staying here on our next visit to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Hightowers, Manager at High Towers Guest House, responded to this review, 17 July 2013
On arrival, the guests confirmed that they had booked a double room by mistake and needed a twin room. The Goodwood Festival of Speed week-end is 200% over subscribed so all our twin rooms were taken
At short notice, we converted a large double to a twin, hence the modest extra charge

I'm in UK for about a year and needed somewhere to stay that was more than a guest house room but less than a standard apartment. In the High Towers Business Flatlet, I had (and continue to have) exactly what I need. I've been here for a few months already, since Nov 2012.

The three flatlets are contained in an adjoined annexe to the beautiful main house, where you'll find the guest house rooms. There's ample private parking - I was lucky enough to be offered covered parking within the garage, which has been very welcome during this awful and awfully long winter. My flatlet is very well equipped with fridge, microwave, two-ring ceramic hob, broadband (via a cable connection, as the flatlet is just out of range of the main house's wifi), TV with Freeview, an en suite including an electric shower with instant hot-water, good cupboard space for clothes and storage for groceries etc if, like me you're doing your own cooking. The armchair provided is one of the most comfortable I've used anywhere. The flatlet is cleaned once a week by the lovely Sue, who has occasionally and very willingly done a little extra thorough cleaning when asked (I'm asthmatic and have dust allergies).

The owners, Una and Ken, could not be more helpful, and in my experience, thoroughly professional and appropriately friendly. Yes, the A3(M) motorway is very close, and even Portsdown Hill Road is a fairly busy road, but in my experience if you choose to be bothered by something like this, you will be. Conversely, if you accept it, you will be surprised how quickly it becomes mere background noise that is mostly not even noticed. (I mention all this because of the negative comments in one or two reviews below).

Havant town centre is a mere 3km, and Tesco or ASDA even closer. There are numerous pubs and restaurants within easy reach by car, many of which I have reviewed here on Trip Advisor. The centre of the major city of Portsmouth is no more than 5km away, and there is good rail access to London from Havant or Bedhampton stations.

I'll be staying here for at least another couple of months, and have no hesitation at all in recommending High Towers to anyone who is looking for something just a little different (or even a one night stay in an exceptional guest house).

We arrived ealy, but the room was ready and had a nice welcome.
The room was really nice with more home comforts than the major chains of hotels. Lovely lounge to relax in as well,
The owners were very accomodating and pleasant.
The bed was comfortable.
Breakfast was great.
The next time we visit Portsmouth, this will be our first point of call

Room was comfortable, breakfast was tasty and our hosts were very friendly and most helpful. A very homely b & b. We had a family room which had 2 double beds. We all had a good nights sleep and couldn't really hear the traffic as the windows were closed.

We arrived from the ferry late evening in the rain, and were welcomed and guided to our room : No 4 ...!
A large room with big bed and en-suite facilities ... BUT very quickly we realised that the traffic noise from the highway was very loud and unlikely to diminish during the night (the main highway from Portsmouth to London .... !)
This proved correct and we spent a most awful night just trying to get some sleep ...
Next morning the only reply we got from the owners was "that's the motorway - nothing we can do about it !"
On top of this we needed 10 tries to flush the toilet ...
We as travellers CAN do something : just steer clear of this B&B !!

Arrive earlier than the booking in time but had a lovely warm welcome, able to leave belongings in the lounge until room was ready. Room 3 lovely and cosy, bed very comfortable, bathroom more than adequate, bath and shower included with plenty of instant hot water. Surroundings very homely, made to feel very welcome, choice of breakfast times and breakfasts, the full english is a must. All in all a lovely place, run by a lovely couple who couldn't do enough for you. Would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend this very homely b and b.

Another lovely stay at "High Towers". We stayed 2 very comfortable nights here and were able to come and go as we pleased the breakfasts were just what we wanted and cooked to order, not on a buffet hotplate for hours!!!!The bedroom was warm, bed was comfortable and the tea and coffee facilities were ample not just 2 cups each we could actually have a mug of tea and coffee whenever we wanted one
Thank you for making our weekend comfortable and.
