We stayed on Friday 21st September. The hotel staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Food was really reasonable, although drinks did seem expensive. The rooms were very dated and could do with modernising, as could the entire hotel, but the they were very clean. We had a great night's sleep because the room was so comfortable. We will definitely be returning and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for reasonably priced accommodation with great service.

We stayed at The Bear Hotel for the Goodwood Revival weekend 2012. We found the Bear Hotel very nice. The rooms were a little tired but they were lovely and clean and the bed was really comfortable. We had a room on the top floor and there was no lift but it wasn't too bad. We ate in the restaurant and found the meals to be a bit basic. The staff were very helpful. A special thank you to Jane and Beth for making our stay so good. You were both wonderful and helped make our stay memorable.

stayed with my husband and son for one night as was good value. when we checked in we were helped by a very friendly lady and given our room key. hotel could do with some money spending on it as corridors and carpets all very worn but our room was clean with nice clean bedding and a good size. we had an evening meal in the restaurant and the service was great very friendly staff. a little noisy up until around 1am. not hotels fault but they had a wedding party in function rooms and the noise was the guests outside waiting for taxis. breakfast was nice and staff were again great in the dining room.

Room Tip: we only saw our room but the whole hotel needs updating.

4 nights, August 2012, retired couple. Booked a special offer in the national press. Generally OK, room (a twin) basically clean though we felt skimpily serviced (toilet bowl stained, no shaving light, bedside bulb off, curtains left untidy). Beds most soft & comfortable. Ample storage in mix-and-match furniture. Breakfast excellent with a good choice of both cooked and continental. Evening meals good value especially the two-for-£10 deal. Restaurant staff most obliging,. as were reception staff. Plenty of free (with hotel ticket) parking. Havant not a bad town with most facilities. Bus station a stone's throw away with frequent buses to Portsmouth, Chichester (a delightful town) and Brighton. All-in-all excellent value. Would happily recommend and return.

Room Tip: Rooms do vary in size so bear this in mind.

Having visited many Old English Inns ignored the poor reviews but that was a mistake. Lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful, so we though excellent. We went to our room which was very tired and in need of some TLC. Public aras and corridors need attention. Large window with no black out curtain and did not open much so very hot, although a fan was supplied. We had been told that food was served until 9.45 so was surprised when we attempted to eat at 8.00pm to be told by the most rude man (Richard) that there was 7 in the restuarant and only one chef so he had no idea when we would be served. We obvioulsy left. His attitude was appaling. Breakfast the next mornig was like something out of Fawlty Towers. Lots of dirty tables and the staff continually saying 'we'll take your order in a second'. When breakfast did arrive it was not pleasant. We tried the restuarant again on the 2nd night, due to long day we did not want to have to find something else. We should have made the effort. The dinner arrived, minimal serving, and the roast potatotes were still frozen. My dinner was taken away and replaced with more potatoes but the rest of the meal had gone cold. Thankfully we realised on checking out that we had not been charged for the meals. It's a real shame. The hotel is OK for the money but the food and restuarant is very dissapointing. Some real customer training is needed. An oppurtunity missed.

Wwe booked a double room online but there were none available when we arrived so we were given 2 singles at the same price as was quoted for the double. Not sure what happened as our confirmation was clear. Anyway, the rooms were fine, although the whole place could do with a bit of sprucing up. Breakfast was fine with quite a variety really-and always a plus with me-hot toast that I didnt have to make myself like in so many hotels these days.

Room Tip: Not really very good if you have mobility issues-no lifts and winding staircases
