“Wished we could have stayed for more than one night!”
Reviewed 16 August 2010

Spent one night (only, sadly) at this beautiful cottage, which my husband booked as part of my birthday present. If we did not have had to return to London for a birthday meal with friends and family, we would have happily stayed longer. Daphne, Gordon and the dogs and cat were extremely welcoming and their home, which they open up to guests, was charming and delightful. We had the downstairs room, which was absolutely massive and very comfortable. It did not have an on suite bathroom but that was not a problem as we were provided with a private bathroom of our own upstairs. Daphne even supplies bath robes! In fact, she has thought of everything that you could need. The bed was massive and very comfy, with masses of pillows. In the morning Daphne brought in our pre-ordered cooked breakfast (other healthier options are available!) which she set up in our room on the table in the window. Just perfect. Freshly squeezed orange juice, tea made in a silver teapot and served in china cups, locally sourced sausages which were probably the best sausages I have ever had, and on and on it goes until we were too stuffed to move. The cottage is right next to Burley Villa Riding School, which was the reason for our visit to the New Forest (we went on a 2hr horse treck through the forest, it was amazing) and right on the doorstep of the New Forest itself. All in all, it was a lovely stay and we will definately go back again, for at least 2 nights this time!

My partner and I found this gem amongst "Britain's Finest". Picture perfect, a beautiful thatched cottage set in a perfectly private garden, climbing roses , huge old apple tree , wisteria... you get the picture. We were warmly greeted by our hostess Daphne and shown to our room, more a suite than a room! Tastefully furnished with an obvious eye for detail , fresh flowers, silver teapot , delicate teacups and saucers. Breakfast, to our delight was served in our room, all beautifully and professionally presented. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the kippers, a nice alternative to the traditional English breakfast , also available, and I enjoyed a bowl of home made muesli and fresh strawberries. A great location at the southern edge of the New Forest, all areas of interest were easily accessible and the choice of quality restaurants and eateries were all within a short driving distance.
If you are afraid of dogs the 2 large dobermans rushing at the gate could cause your heart to miss a beat, but they are perfectly trained and totally harmless.
I sincerely recommend this B& B for all those travelers who enjoy a superior experience without the huge expense.

We have just returned from Yew Tree Farm where we have been spoilt by Daphne our hostess. We had the upstairs room which was extremely clean and airy, beautifully decorated and contained everything we needed for our 5 day break. Daphne's breakfast set us up for the day and her kindness and thoughtfulness made our stay very memorable. We would recommend Yew Tree Farm to anyone. It is a delight. M&R Essex.

Daphne Matthews is a very welcoming hostess, This B & B is a little teasure. Our breakfast was served on a beautifullly laid table with silver teapots and lovely china. The menu was quite extensive, and catered for all needs. Our room was large, airy and extremely comfortable. Daphne was informative about local restaurants, pubs and places of interest etc. An extremely relaxing break.

On behalf of myself , my friends and my sister. I would like to say that the lovely Daphne showed all of us kind hospitality when we stayed there for the weekend. Daphne was very pleasant and kind and always made sure that myself, my two friends and my sister were enjoying ourselves and was concerned for all of our well beings.

The breakfast was delicious and Yew Tree Farm was very beautiful it was such a joy to to be given a tour around her farm on the day that we left. If I ever visit the New Forest again I will definitely come and stay at Yew Tree Farm again. My friend Salma is already considering staying at Yew Tree Farm for her birthday in July.

It is also right next door to the Burley Villa riding school so we did not have to walk far.

Resting literally on the doorstep to the New Forest, Daphney Matthew's little gem, dressed in Its Sunday best - well manicured gardens overlooking a large paddock, quaint old thatched roof - provides a veritable home away from home for those looking for something a bit different from the usual new forest b&b fare. The interior has been crafted to exhude that not so typical Country Manor feel, resplendent with antique but comfortable furniture, exposed and restored wooden cross beams, and large front windows overlooking the gardens and birdhouse. Daphne herself is an excellent host, easily receiving requests from her guests, providing a scrumptious English breakfast service in the comfort of your room with a wide menu selection to choose, and generally conveying the sense of genuine enjoyment at sharing the comforts of her house with her patrons.

If you want to stay in a thatched cottage with lovely gardens in an idylic setting then this is it.
Your hostess is exceptionally welcoming as she shows you to your room.
Our room (double en-suite) was full of 'Olde Worlde Charm', floral curtains, angled ceilings, wood panels, it was set up to be warm and relaxing. The hospitality tray has everything you need and it's so nice to drink out of real china.
Breakfast is served after you order from an extensive menu in your room at a pre-arranged time.
Daphne arrives and sets up your table with freshly squeezed juice and big pots of tea and coffee.........my teapot was silver and it poured without spilling a drop!!
The breakfasts are not for the faint hearted, you don't leave hungry.
It's the kind of place you go when you want to really relax and it's close to many places of interest.
We enjoyed it very much
