We took our touring caravan for a short weekend break at Hoburne Bashley in early October after booking at the last minute.
As soon as we arrived on site we were welcomed by a member of staff who helped us get our caravan on to the pitch. Unfortunately, our electric cable was too short to reach the hook up, but we were moved to another pitch in closer proximity to the hook up in a matter of minutes. A 25 metre cable is definitely needed at this site!
The touring area is very nice with plenty of space for caravan, car and awning and has hedges separating each individual pitch. The shower blocks are situated close by and were themselves clean and tidy. All in all, I really can't find anything to grumble about when it comes to the touring field. It's a well kept area with a very helpful warden close by.
The facilities throughout the site are great with plenty to keep you and the kids amused. Outside there is a very large sports field with pitch and putt, crazy golf, archery, a football pitch, tennis courts, a very nice children's adventure playground and even a golf course. The swimming pool is great with a flume and even a sauna in the changing area. However, the pool is due for renovation this year and is going to be replaced with a straightforward rectangular pool with no water slides. The outdoor pool was closed during our visit, but looked to be a good size.
The entertainment complex has everything you would expect to find on a site like this with restaurant, bar, arcade, bowling and evening entertainment. We ate in the restaurant on one occasion and the food was perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced. In fact, everything at Hoburne Bashley is reasonably priced. If, like us, you are used to staying at Haven or Parkdean sites, you will be pleasantly surprised by how much cheaper things are at Hoburne Bashley. From the arcade machines - to the drinks in the bar, the prices are not going to bankrupt you!
The evening entertainment was good with plenty for the kids and a very good singer/comedian on the Friday evening who went down a storm.
All in all, Hoburne Bashley has a good old fashioned charm about it. It's not as modern or on the scale of Haven or Parkdean sites, but it has a lovely atmosphere that reminded me of family holidays from when I was a child back in the 80s. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful throughout our stay and are looking forward to visiting the Hoburne site in Torbay in the future.
