15 families members stayed for three nights. Service, service, service. Everyone tried their best to accommodate all your needs and desires. We had arranged falconry, clay pigeon shooting and golf thru the hotel. The grounds are spotless. The food is great, but service could be slow at times. The indoor pool and hydrotherapy spa area was a total highlight. I've never seen an entire area that was hot tub, jets of all types in one facility. Too bad it closes at 10, I would love for it to stay open one more hour. The grounds are gorgeous and the walk to the beach was lovely. For special occasions as they do not give it away.

My family and I stayed in a few of the treehouses for a long weekend, and the standard of accomodation and service compares very well to anywhere else we have stayed.
Perhaps the lovely weather helped a fraction, but the treehouses are fantastic and the children loved the whole concept with their "hidden" room found after climbing a book case ! The rooms themselves are pretty big, certainly by UK standards, and the hot tub on the veranda was big enough for us all ! The rooms are furnished to a high spec and contain all the gadgets and accessories you could ever need including a coffee machine, DVD, ipod/ipad docks, wifi, all the hair equipment things and even a decent iron.
Service is very good - attentive but unobstrusive. The hotel clearly has a policy to employ staff with intelligence and character rather than the usual bland recourse to hotel policy or a "computer says no" thinking which is seems typical of most other hotels.
The kids had a great time (we had 6 there in total from 1 - 8 years old) and there is plenty for them to do including a nicely heated outdoor pool, and easy access to the croquet and putting lawns, as well as an adventure playground and lots of other areas to explore.
My very minor quibbles were that the breakfast hamper in the treehouse is disappointing so we ended up at the main restaurant. And, I'm not a huge fan of the rain-water showers in the bathrooms which look good but always seem a bit underpowered to me.
The place is expensive, but is one of the few hotels I have stayed in where I can honestly say it was worth it.

Room Tip: Stay in the treehouses but don't get the breakfast hamper The rooms in the hotel overlooking th...

Fantastic afternoon tea overlooking the grounds this weekend. Staff were brilliant. went to look at the Treehouses too. They are fabulous and will definitely have to find an excuse to stay in one! might even have a dip in the pool.

We stayed here on the second to last leg of the Aston Martin tour and it was without doubt one of the best hotels by a mile.
The service was impeccable from start to finish, the food was delicious and cooked to perfection.
Memorable moment was the croquet & pimms on the lawn with the rest of the tour members - the hotel had arranged a tutor to mentor us, what a great time we all had coupled with the most amazing weather.
The bedroom was absolutely first class - the bathroom had an enormous bath & separate rain shower along with double sinks.
The toilet & bidet in another room as you would expect.
The hotel director personally waved us off not forgetting to pass on his business card reminding us to call him prior to our next visit to ensure we received the best attention - clearly not necessary as this was a perfect stay.

We stayed here for one night last week and quite frankly standards have slipped somewhat. Our room was ready when we arrived and we were taken straight to it. Ordered a pot of coffee and fruit tea for the morning. Checked around the room and minor things were missing but were there later when we returned to the room following turn down service.
The restaurant was quite disappointing. The waiting staff seemed disorganised some were not dressed appropriately with dirty uniforms which is quite unacceptable and we were horrified to see a waiter removing plates before our guest had finished her meal. However the sommelier was perfect and very helpful indeed. The food at dinner time was exceptional and we have no complaints about the standard of food it was just the poor service.

.I know there was a wedding taking place that afternoon but really extra staff should have been drafted in to maintain its once high standard.

In the morning no fruit tea arrived and breakfast frankly was farcical. There were flies on the cold cuts and salmon. We never did get any toast despite reminding the waiter. This is really not on at all.
Sadly we were very disappointed with the stay this time and hope that there will be some improvement to bring it back up to its five star rating.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely.

Having stayed at Chewton Glen many years ago, we were quite excited to go back for an overnight stay, as we were attending a wedding there. Upon arrival at 1.30 (wedding started at 3.00) our suite wasn't ready yet. After a little haggling we were shown to another room to get changed despite phoning ahead and requesting the room be ready.
When we were finally shown to our room, I have to say it was pleasant enough, lots of bathroom bits, and always a bonus - lots of towels.
The sofa bed (we needed an extra bed) was lumpy, thin and quite uncomfortable - but the double was very comfortable.
The Wedding itself was beautiful and the grounds are exceptionally well kept.
The bar staff couldn't cope, empty bottles and glasses littered most surfaces and generally it looked a mess. The toilets were even worse. Unfortunately one of the guests threw up in the toilet (missed and got the floor) where it remained for the duration. The men's toilets weren't much better, with overflowing waste baskets and glasses lining the sink.
Breakfast in the morning was a disaster. Not that they were busy. It took 20 mins to get a cup of coffee and over 45 minutes to get the 'kipper' I had ordered. No toast, butter merrily melting - dispute asking for toast - still none arrived.
There seems to be a lack of co-ordination between staff and the management don't seem overly capable of managing.
It's a very beautiful place and the setting is gorgeous - however this is no 5 star hotel. In my opinion it would be a very good 4 star hotel. Up your game Chewton Glen before you loose your 5 star rating.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your recent stay at Chewton Glen.

I was saddened to read that this was a somewhat mixed experience and on behalf of all the team please accept our sincerest apologies for the in parts disappointing stay.

We make every effort to have rooms ready for guests prior to their arrival, however when the hotel is fully booked we are very much dependant on the time departing guests leave their rooms. With an unusually late check-out time of 12 noon it is understandable that we are unable to guarantee bedrooms will be ready for check in before 15:00. That said I am sorry that your bedroom was not ready for you when you arrived but am equally pleased that my team were able to find a suitable accommodation for you to use in the interim.

You have highlighted a number of serious shortcomings which make embarrassing and difficult reading. I have discussed these at length with the managers responsible for Events, Housekeeping and the Restaurant and they join me in apologising for these unacceptable lapses in service. Please rest assured that I have reviewed the procedures we have in place to ensure that the necessary changes are made to prevent re-occurrences in future.

I trust that based on your previous stay you will understand that this is not a typical experience at Chewton Glen and very much hope that you will consider returning in future. I would be pleased to hear from you should you wish to discuss this matter with me directly.

With kind regards

Andrew Stembridge

This was our second visit to Chewton Glen hotel and it didn't disappoint - just a few improvement suggestions, after all you expect near perfection in this price range.

We stayed in a lodge room which was 2 floors - perfect for my teenage daughter to have some privacy and generally very spacious, adding to the relaxing feeling of the place.

The reception are very welcoming and friendly, in fact the whole staff are really good. The restaurant is very nice and the food exceptional.

Improvement areas - the bar/lounge which extends outside in good weather - took longer that it should to get served and the lounge menu (if you want a break from the main restaurant) is a bit weak to be honest.

However I must put that into context - they are minor issues in an otherwise fabulous hotel. The Chewton Glen is a pretty special experience all round and highly recommended.
