“Lovely weekend getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2011

We spent the weekend here for our 1st anniversary and definitely received a very warm welcome & lots of nice extra touches because of it! Had a lovely room in the main house, dined in the restaurant both nights - excellent food and wine. We borrowed bikes and pedaled into Lymington for the afternoon and pedaled back along the gorgeous coastal path and spend most of the next day relaxing in the hyrotherapy pools and outdoor jacuzzi which are fantastic! Great service and lovely relaxed location.

We would like to thank these guests for such a positive review and needless to say we are delighted that their first anniversary celebration at Chewton Glen was so memorable. The coastal path to Lymington is one of my favourite adventures and I am pleased that they also enjoyed it along with the soak in the hydrotherapy pool afterwards!

Just had a 3 night stay with my wife and 5 year old, on the 3 for 2 room only basis
Had a silver standard room...but not the one we agreed on (which was slightly larger and had a sofa bed). All amicably resolved by the staff and we had breakfast thrown into our deal (£26pp) and kept the (slightly smaller) room.
Breakfast - excellent. They just need to find someone who can make proper lattes
Room service - CG club sandwich was very nice, but not cheap
Room - had a modern one which was very nice but if you look carefully was showing a bit of wear (missing sealant in shower cubicle)
Staff - first class, very helpful
Spa - very nice and relaxing. Set times for kids to use which I thought struck the right balance
Kids club - great
Venue/grounds - beautiful
Dinner - we actually had room service one night and we went out to the Jetty on the other 2 nights (see separate review...recommended)
Having stayed at many of the Grand Country Hotels (Cliveden, Stoke Park, Tynley Hall, Pennyhill etc) I would say that this is right up there with the best of them.
These places are always expensive and CG was no exception!
Would definitely return and stay again if we negotiated another good deal

It was very pleasing to read that this family enjoyed their half term break at Chewton Glen and that they would definitely return in the future. All of the feedback they have given is extremely useful and although we do undertake regular barista training, it sounds like some of the team need to practice their lattes more. We look forward to welcoming these guests back.

From the moment we pulled into the drive, the service and staff were excellent. The hotel is lovely, everthing you would expect it to be, With large, fully furnished suites that meet all your needs and requirements. The food is 5 star in the resturant as well as room service. Tipping is not allowed for anything, it is added at the end, and well worth it. We have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world, and we put this on par or better!

As you can imagine I have enjoyed sharing this review with the whole team at Chewton Glen and I was pleased to note that this reviewer enjoyed all elements of their time with us. I am also pleased that these guests appreciated our “no tipping” policy although it is worth noting that all of our quoted rates include service from the outset rather than it being added at the end.

Three of our group arrived slightly late and the first three went ahead and started with their tea. When we arrived we were also provided with tea (enough for one cup each) and waited half an hour until the sandwiches and cakes arrived. I thought this was rather a long time but it was a leisurely afternoon out so did not mind.
Of course by now we wanted some more tea but there were not many members of staff around and it took a long time to grab a waiter to ask for some more. I was rather surprised that at no time during the afternoon (we were there 2.5 hours) did a member of staff come to our table to ask if everything was OK and if we needed a refil. They ask at our local pub but not at Chewton Glen, it seems. Is this a five star thing - do they consider it to be obtrusive??
We noticed that all the other tables in the lounge had been served cupcakes while we had fruit cake, which none of us liked. So we asked the waitor if we could have cupcakes instead. He looked rather shocked at our cheek and went to ask the chef, and then told us we were allowed three cupcakes (between eight of us). I wonder why the other guests got special treatment?
After a while all the staff vanished so I actually had to go look for a server in their little tea-making room to ask for the bill. I have to say I have only ever had to do this once before, at a restaurant being poorly run by a bunch of teens.
All in all it was a bit of a disappointment since I had been looking forward to going to such a prestegious place for tea. I thought the £25.00 per person included attentive five-star service, but the service was worse than in my local tea rooms!

I was saddened and embarrassed to read this review especially in light of the fact that we normally receive such glowing reports for our afternoon teas. We are constantly reviewing and evolving our afternoon tea selection and at this time we are serving fruit cakes and cup cakes as our standard offering. At this particular time we were short of said cup cakes and therefore this should have been clearly communicated to these guests. It is a great shame that these guests did not enjoy their overall experience and whilst we take onboard all of their comments, it is equally if not more important to have the opportunity to restore their faith in Chewton Glen.

We didn't stay on this occassion as we now live close by and are very fortunate to have this great hotel on our doorstep, but we have stayed in the past, so can confidently recommend it to anyone. We now belong to their Dining Club and so we decided this year to go to the Chewton for our Valentine's Meal. We had the Gourmand meal with wines. It was in a word "superb" . The wines selected went beautifully with our meal. Service as usual was excellent and we had a lovely evening, and couldn't fault it. We also regularly do their "literary lunches" and have thoroughly enjoyed every one. You get a 3 course lunch with wines and tea/coffee and they are superb value for money we think. Afternoon tea is a real treat by the way, and the Spa is the best one we have been to. In fact the Chewton Glen is a real treat ..full stop. How lucky are we to have it on our doorstep :o)

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to the Chewton Glen team for what was undoubtedly an amazing weekend. My girlfriend (now wife to be) had the time of her life and it was all down to the hard work and effort of everyone behind the scenes at the Chewton Glen. I planned a surprise proposal and everything went so smoothly. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.

We stayed in the Marryat Suite which was beautiful and I would highly recommend it to all guests thinking of staying at the Chewton Glen. Very spacious and excellent facilities; a home from home.

We we will certainly be returning to stay at the Chewton Glen again.

This was our second visit to Chewton Glen and it was as good as remembered it to be.
Service was excellent throughout - not often the case in England.
We had a gold room overlooking the croquet lawn. The room was very spacious, well equiped with a large bathroom. Two minor criticisms - the lighting could be better - it was quite difficult to read in bed and the bathroom needed a little bit of maintenance (dodgy plugs)
We ate in the restaurant on both evenings, the menu offered plenty of choice and the quality of the dishes was uniformly high. I can see why it is rated 3 rosettes by the AA.
We had wondered whether the hotel would be devoid of atmosphere given the time of our stay but this was not the case. We will go back.

We were delighted that these guests enjoyed their return visit to Chewton Glen as much as their first and that they made particular note of the service and the food. We also very much appreciate the feedback regarding the bedside lighting and the plugs in the bathroom. The latter has already been dealt with by the maintenance team and these guests will be pleased to note that all of our newly refurbished bedrooms benefit from reading lights next to the bed. We very much hope that these guests will find time to pay us a third visit in the not too distant future.
