Chose this picture postcard village of East Meon and historic inn to relax in between two strenuous stages of nearby South Downs Way. Shared 'Wickham' twin ensuite and room was tidy and spacious. The breakfast was well-cooked and although we did not eat dinner there the restaurant menu looked impressive.
Unfortunately, there were two negative experiences that affected our full enjoyment of the walking weekend. We had the lowest pressure shower I can ever recall, maybe a fraction of a bar. The meagre amount of water escaping from the shower head made it very difficult to rinse off and not at all refreshing. Really you expect a decent electric shower these days especially when paying £80 for a room and after enjoying a whole day in the outdoors in warm weather. The other negative was the packed lunch. No choice whatsoever, we were provided plain cheese and tomato in white bread (with a few additional items) to have as our picnic later that day (price £6 each). Even though we requested the lunches the night before apparently they needed more advance notice so they could get supplies in, very strange when you consider they are running a restaurant. That said it did not really spoil our weekend. The George is a very comfortable place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay in East Meon village.
