Stayed here on business recently and the rooms were of a high standard.

Food in the restaurant was lovely and I'm sure freshly prepared rather than the microwave jobs you get in some places!

Staff were friendly and helpfull especially the manager Alex.

Location is good too, just off the M27, was recomended by a friend and was glad it was, will be using again if in the area.

And that was on a quiet night.
The Mrs had the roast chicken breast with sauteed potatoes, I had the lamb shank with mash and redcurrant jus.
Both meals were beautifully cooked and full of flavour, piping hot and well presented.
Staff were polite and friendly but service was slower than we would have liked.

The place sounded great on the web site, but could have done with a good tidy up in the garden. Cigarette butts everywhere and when a customer requested an ashtry he had one almost thrown at him. not to mention the weeds. The food is Haute cuisine, something that is not mentioned anywhere, much to my husbands disgust as he ordered liver and bacon and he only just managed to find the bacon it was so small a piece. The rooms were ok but could have been larger at that price. The staff were great, but the manager aught to go on a customer awareness/politeness course.

We didn't stay at the hotel, we just dined in the restaurant.

The Mortimer Arms is only a 10 minute drive from where we live and we have thought about trying it for a couple of years. Before the recent refurbishment, we tried to get in but it was fully booked.

No problem this time though!

The bar area is great and if it is a sunny/warm day or evening you can sit outside.

The restaurant area is OK but it is has no atmosphere at all. I think that they have made the decision to not have any background music but this just makes the area dull and fuddy-duddy.

On the night we were there - which was a Friday night - the bar area was almost empty and there were empty tables in the restaurant.

Despite this, it took 50 minutes to get our order served (we didn't have starters). When I asked where our food was, I was told that that the Sea Bass took a while as it was cooked from scratch - not sure what this meant for the rest of the food on the menu!

The wine we picked had run out so we had to choose again - however the rose pinot grigio was good, although we had to ask for an ice bucket.

The food, once delivered was very good and the portions were very generous. I had baked sea bass and my husband had the scampi and chips.

There seemed to be only two waitresses working in the restaurant and one of those was on her first night.

The manager seemed to wander about, not taking any notice of any guests and I noticed had to be tracked down by members of staff on occasions.

We will not be going back again and judging by the empty tables and chairs, I think others have come to the same conclusion.

I don't think the Mortimer Arms is the place it used to be!
