“The Ideal Local”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Near to the centre of the town, this hostelry serves first class food both at lunchtime and in the evening. The restaurant area is cozy and the service is attentive without being intrusive. Wide choice of food, with the extra teats on the "specials board". All the old favourite pub meals with a little added panache.

“What a find”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

A gorgeous little pub, nestled down a back street. We had a superb meal here, delicious food and hearty portion sizes. Dogs are allowed in the garden and bar area, where you can order food.

“A tasty and friendly and polite place”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Popped in on a sunny Sunday lunchtime, about 1300. Others have described pub decor & building.

We had often seen the pub, but never used it, glad we did this Sunday

It is food not beer led, but honestly what do you expect in a semi rural & affluent Hampshire market town adjacent to Waitrose?

Beer is standard Fuller's hand pull, plus usual fizzy lagers etc

No sports TV, no pool table , no darts, no juke box, hooray I say

We were in for food, it is not cheap in the 2 for a tenner band, looking at around 10 to 12 quid per meal for lunch, but the meals were huge, tasty and worth the money IMO

Beer is pricey, nudging £4, but given the area, again, what do you expect?

The food was lovely, we had salmon & the ham egg & chips

OK, may have to wait more than ten minutes, but it is not "chicken ding" type of meals

Staff were polite, helpful, clean & tidy. Nothing seemed too much trouble

I will certainly return here

It has a a small car park, but backs onto the Council car park , which at time of writing, is free from 4 PM and all day Sunday

Outside beer garden, accessible from above car park

If you are sitting outside and running a food / drink tab you will need to give credit card details on ordering, guess it is just too easy to do a runner from the beer garden to the car

PS, has Sunday nibbles on the bar, crisps, cheese etc, thumbs up for that

“ROLL ON THE NEXT TIME!”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We visited this pub with friends last Thursday. We had been to a lunchtime Concert in the Abbey so arrived about 2.30. The welcome was warm. Food - crab salads for 2 of us and 2 plaice & veg. All excellent. One of best cups of coffee I have had. Beer & wine fine.
