“Awful Weather, beautiful abbey”
Reviewed 5 January 2014

We went to Romsey for a day out (it lasted only 90 minutes) the weather was awful but we decided to go and look around the Abbey. We were welcomed by the charming guides and delighted that there was no fee to enter (there is a recommended donation which we were more than happy to pay). I would recommend the free guide which takes you on a tour of this beautiful building and points out all the important and historic parts of the abbey.

If you are in Romsey you really must go. Take your camera (I didn't, thinking they would not be allowed) and they do ask for a slightly larger donation but it would have been so worth it. Thanks to the vicar and his helpers. Excellent.

“A wonderful parish church”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Romsey Abbey is the parish church of Romsey. It was originally a nunnery but was saved from destruction following Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries by being purchased by citizens of Romsey. It is a magnificent building but also the centre of a thriving community. It was very gratifying to see the Abbey full of both local groups and individuals for the annual Remembrance Sunday service.

“Awe inspiring”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

The town of Romsey is dominated by its Abbey so it is easy to find!. It is a remarkable building which was previously a Benedictine Nunnery. The architecture is Norman but the earlier foundations were Anglo-Saxon. It is well worth a visit. The tomb of Lord Louis Mountbatten is in Romsey Abbey as his home was Broadlands - just across the Romsey by-pass - and well worth visiting too.
