“Easter Sunday Roast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

Finding ourselves on our own for the first time in 30 years on an Easter Sunday, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a meal out on this special occasion. We had hoped the weather would be sunny and we'd get to sit outside on the lovely patio area with views of Green Hill and Romsey Abbey behind us. Sadly we weren't lucky with the sunshine but love this contemporary yet character-filled restaurant with its intimate corners for couples or convivial tables for groups. Sensitive lighting and comfy chairs feel homely and the staff are attentive without being fussy. We had a gorgeous roast - chunks of lamb to die for, rustic roasts and a comforting selection of veg. The dark, rich gravy made me want to get a hunk of bread and wipe the plate clean! Thank you, Cromwell Arms, a real home from home when we need a treat!

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

Four of us went to the Cromwell Arms on a recent Saturday evening with high hopes. However, we found the service to be haphazard, with several waiting on staff on duty, but none allocated to specific tables. This meant we were asked if we were ready to order before being given menus (this happened for the main course and again for dessert). Two of our main courses were cold and we called a passing waiter for help. He said he would get new dishes and we would not be charged. The "supervisor" who had spoken to us on arrival apologised and repeated that we would not be charged for these. By the time the replacements arrived, the other two in our party had finished theirs, so it was not altogether satisfactory. However, the steak and ale pie (hot version) was tasty, as was the bread and butter pudding.
But the finishing touch was that both main meals appeared on the bill, so we had to go through a discussion with the barman in order to have these removed. All in all, it was not a good enough experience to make us choose this restaurant over the many other establishments in this area.

“A very good place to eat with friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2014

My wife and I booked a table for 8 of us on Saturday evening. We were warmly greeted on arrival and sampled some local ales at the bar before being shown to our table. We had pre ordered the meals which is standard practice for groups of 8 or more at the Cromwell Arms and soon our starters arrived. Delicious would be the word to describe them and likewise the subsequent courses. The service was friendly and very efficient and the total cost was very reasonable. We will all return again very soon.

“not as good as it used to be”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

we waited about 30 mins for our starters I had scallops and king prawn in thermidor sauce which to me was over powered with mustard. My main was calves liver which was to close to being raw for my taste although I was told it was cooked pink it was also very sineue .I was offered it half price. The staff were polite, but service was slow as we waited for desserts menu and then had to ask to order . We stayed over night the rooms are excellent and the cooked breakfast was also very good wish I had had it the night before!

“Good decision”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2014 via mobile

We came off the motorway to have lunch and came across the Cromwell Arms, Romsey. The lunch was really good. Presentation, service and of course the food were excellent. What a good find, will go again and happy to recommend, also had accommodation which looked very new and smart.
