“We crept out thinking we'd intruded on a wake...”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

Our first time eating out in Romsey we checked in with this rather splendid website for guidance and picked two of the top rated establishments as possibles. The Blue Hayes looks lovely and quaint from the exterior and we thought we'd hit jackpot... as soon as we entered the lobby a slight chill set in and as we tentatively opened the door we encountered a scene akin to God's waiting room and a hushed ambience that wouldn't be out of place in a morgue, despite the place being packed with pale looking pensioners with sunken in features who'd clearly lost the will to live. Imagine the pub on the moor from America Werewolf in London crossed with a poorly run care home and you've just about got the picture... we didn't even get through the inner door before we backed out Scooby Doo style and made a run for our back up establishment, The Bear and Ragged Staff a few minutes away which was lovely and had a lively atmosphere with great food and service... we spent the early part of the evening laughing our heads off at our lucky escape...

“A Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

Have been there with; golfing chums for a light lunch, more golfers for a formal dinner, friends from USA, Canada, S Africa as well as UK, my wifes sisters, and just me and my wife.
In every case those who attended were very pleased with the food and the service.
To have had a 100% success rate from such a diverse mix of people is nothing short of a miracle ! But the Blue Hayes did it !
They do an excellent mid-day deal for OAP's but please don't tell too many as we may not be able to get in next time !

The Blue Hayes is one of our favourite local restaurants and my wife and I have been going there regularly for lunch or dinner, every two/thee months, for about five years (since the current owners took over). We have been there when they have been quiet and very busy and have always had an excellent meal and service. We have certainly never left there hungry, in fact the reverse is normally the case, where having a lunch time meal there usually means that tea time at home has to be somewhat later than usual!

“Wonderful family meal”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

We had a family celebration meal here recently and everybody was very impressed with everything about the Blue Hayes restauarant. We were in the function room which had nice views of the garden area where we enjoyed pre meal drinks. The food was delicious, well presented and enjoyed by everyone. The service was very good as well, attentive but very unobtrusive , nothing was too much trouble. Thanks also to Sharon for allowing us to personalise the room to make the day more memorable. Well worth a return visit!
