“Excellent Value”

We had a Family get together for lunch and found the hotel and its staff both welcoming and friendly. The menu was not the most adventurous I've encountered but the food was well cooked and well presented and provided excellent value for money it is my understanding that wherever possible the food is locally sourced. At no point did we feel any pressure to rush between courses nor to leave at the end of our meal.
A pleasant experience and one I will probably repeat.

The room we stayed in was clean but very shabby and smelt of stale smoke, the travel lodges and premier inns have been much better in my experience. We attended a wedding reception and they had no idea how to conduct the perfect wedding. The food was cold and bland and the staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful.

The next morning the breakfast room looked like a cafe, no nice tablecloths etc and the waitresses were very surely and unfriendly and forgot to bring us coffee and tea and then when we reminded them just dumped on the table with a very sour look. The whole place could do with refurbishment. Anyone thinking of staying there DON't.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the lodges

I used the Old English Inns voucher code in the newspaper and booked this hotel for two nights at the last minute.
We arrived quite late but managed to get a good meal in the bar, well cooked and very hot, staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Room was large, flat screen TV etc but otherwise average but at this price good value, very good bed as we both slept very well
Breakfast was excellent and again well cooked, good selection of danish pastries fruit and cereals, again staff very good.
Great place for a getaway, we were made very welcome.

The first thing to say is that Greene King have a wide range of hotels, most of them being older, character properties. They also have many pub restaurants, all of which offer very good food at very reasonable prices. I therefore agree with Harry L in his criticism of 'combine harvester' whose comments verged on stupid.
This is the second time we have stayed at The Grosvenor' this year and on both occasions we have been impressed with the quality and presentation of the food at dinner and breakfast, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and the level of cleaning. True, the rooms we have stayed in (rooms 1 and 4) are a little tired and in need of some refurbishment, but even then, they offer large, very comfortable beds, rgood quality flat screen TVs, decent tea and coffee making facilities and warm rooms with windows you can open!
One-star reviewers such as 'combine harvester' ought to know that two of us stayed for three nights, including six great breakfasts, for £89! And our dog stayed for free. We used to run a quality B&B and there was no way we could have made a profit at these prices. We accept it was a special autumn offer but Greene King have many offers throughout the year. Other major chains may offer cheaper rates but you have to pay for extras (like breakfast) and many of them use dynamic management pricing systems which are often used to sting the unsuspecting potential guest.
In our opinion, you get far more than you pay for at The Grosvenor and anyone who doesn't is either unlucky or is being totally unreasonable.
In fact, it's probably the best value hotel stay we have come across in the UK.

My second visit to the Grosvenor was as good as the first. Excellent choice of food, which was extreemly good and the service was first class as well.
I like the Grosvenor because it is slightly shabby chic and comfortable; somewhere to relax without pretention!

We stayed at the Grosvenor in Stockbridge for a weekend in November, It's ideally situated for both Salisbury and Winchester and also various attractions along the Test Valley.
Stockbridge itself is a pretty little town with a single high street offering a number of individual shops and eating places.

We had a room in the annex on the ground floor which overlooked the garden. It was a reasonably sized room, very clean, and while the furnishings may not have been new they were perfectly acceptable - with a large wardrobe, dressing table and a couple of chairs plus a unit with a selection of tea/coffee making items and a flat screen TV. We felt the room was fairly quiet - with less traffic noise or noise from other rooms than many hotels we have stayed in.
We had a zip link bed which many hotels use to enable them to offer both twin or double options and we had absolutely no issue (unlike another review) it was extremely comfortable. .

The bathroom looked like it had been repainted fairly recently - although the fittings and tiling were older and at some point would benefit in being replaced to give a really top quality feel. A couple of very minor issues that I feel could do with being addressed - the bathroom had a energy saving light so you had to switch it on and wait a few minutes before it was actually light enough to go in and close the door, and the wardrobe only had 5 hangers which I do not think is enough - (though this appears to be a common issue in many hotels.)
The annex was linked to the main building by a conservatory so you could get to the main building completely under cover.

We had all our meals in the hotel - the food was varied and well cooked and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We would be quite happy to stay again.

This is the fourth or fifth visit to the Grosvenor Hotel and I still find it a pleasant place to stay. The room, as always, was comfortable and suitably well appointed for a short stay. It is homely, the staff pleasant and polite. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed well cooked food that was served piping hot. Will be returning again.
