“Fabulous weekend away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2013

Had a fantastic weekend at the White Hart in Stockbridge, stayed the Friday and saturday evening, awesome place, the staff couldn't do enough for us, food was brilliant, finished off with a superb roast on the Sunday. Attention to detail on the bedrooms was superb and everything we needed was on hand. Would highly recommend to couples wanting a weekend away together.

Room Tip: We stayed in a superior room, good value and beautiful room

I booked two rooms for a family gathering. We were given two rooms on the ground floor of the adjacent block. The rooms had small windows at high level only one of which opened and therefore the rooms were rather stuffy. A noisy fan was present to help but could not be left running because of the noise. The room fan's noise was added too by the noise from the adjacent kitchen extract system. The rooms had dirty carpets and seemed to be in need of some refurbishment - damage to the plaster walls, scuff marks etc. The beds were comfortable.

It was a busy Saturday evening with many people eating and drinking, a good thing that we had booked a table some weeks beforehand. When we came to the table we were told that because they were busy there would be a 30 minute delay for food, drinks came quickly though. Having taken a pre booking we thought that to give priority to the passing un booked customers did show a total lack courtesy to those who had taken the bother to make a booking. When the food did arrive it was very lack lustre pub grub and possibly rather over priced.

The White Hart charges a high room rate (£95.00 B&B for a double) but no reduction for single occupancy. Alternative hotels charge less per night, make an allowance for single occupancy and are probably a better bet provided they are not hosting a wedding!

We will NOT be back...

Room Tip: Avoid those on the ground floor of the annex and also those close to the pub.

According to the website meals are served on a Sunday night
1800 to 2100. We arrived at 2000 to be told by a surly barmaid that they didn't do food on a Sunday night. When we referred to the website she just repeated that they didn't. We had walked some distance and were treated like rubbish.

Had booked in for two ni8ghts stay and paid a little extra for a premium room. When we arrived the day just went from bad to worse. First the receptionist apologised that there were plumbing problems and we may get a visit from a plumber to inspect the bathroom of our room but we were not to worry as the problem was with another room, which all sounded very dodgy. Went up to the room and what we found was a very dark and dingy room. Just one small window with a large tree outside blocking out most of what little light there was. On a hot summers day you had to have the room lights on just to read. Then, there was no soap in the bathroom and the toilet seat would not stay up without holding it up. Matters not whether you are male or female it posed a problem. Next, went to relax on the bed and read (using the lights) and found that the bed side light was not working. Lay down to relax and all you could hear was running water outside from an overflow pipe and yes, it was from our bathroom and when you went into the bathroom you could clearly hear the toilet cistern running all of the time. In light of all the problems and the fact that we had paid extra for what was supposed to be a deluxe room we cancelled out second night. I have no idea what the rest of the rooms are like but certainly this is not a venueI would recommend.

Room Tip: Do not choose Room 1. Its dark and dingy and totally overpriced.

We booked a couple of rooms which turned out to be well-placed to the rear of the hotel, so no noise from traffic on the adjacent roundabout. We requested early access to allow for changing prior to an afternoon event - they changed the cleaning rota to make our rooms available. The bar and restaurant were both pleasant. A light lunch was slightly disappointing - a Club sandwich which was more bread than filling, though other dishes which were fine. Breakfast seemed a bit hectic and getting coffee refills was a challenge - the food was good. If half stars were acceptable, I would probably have gone to 3.5 as all in all, we had a good stay i.e. better than 'average'. The staff were friendly and accommodating - this is important.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a roundabout, you might want to choose a room over the carpark

It feels unfair to give the White Hart only 3 out of 5 but at almost £100/night I would really have hoped for more.

As a room above a pub, the inn is a great option.
Easy to find, lots of parking, nicely presented, pleasant staff. We had one of the lovely historic rooms above the front of pub and weren't bothered at all by any noise. Four-poster bed was comfy, bathroom a good size with nice toiletries, plenty of hanging space, a substantial fan, very clean, and generous provision of tea / coffee / water. The cooked breakfast options went beyond the usual full English and were very well cooked and delicious.

However, there were a few niggles. Tatty iron and ironing board that left marks on clothing and had to be requested from reception. Bulbs out in the bedroom made dim lighting worse. Shower sprayed water every way but downwards and hooked up to the tap so you couldn't use the bath. Hangers in wardrobe were few and predominantly a mishmash of ones left behind by previous guests. Breakfast and check out times felt very early when we were in such a relaxed little village.

I'd usually overlook niggles like these, but when you're charging almost £100/night, it needs to live up to it and unfortunately the White Hart just missed.

Room Tip: Stay in the historic part if you have the option, it's very atmospheric although expect steps an...

This is nice enough B&B accommodation attached to a pub. It's a little unloved around the edges, our bathroom looked a bit tired, the water didn't come put of the tap at a great volume, but it's hardly dealbreaker stuff. They had made more of an effort in the bedroom, with a great big fan being VERY welcome! There is also proper coffee & cafetiere for the morning, again, very welcome!
It's convenient to have a pub serving food downstairs, and the food is a good range and decent pub grub. The meatball flatbread ordered by my husband can be highly recommended!
Depending on your party, you may want to quiz about the rooms a little. We were in room four which must be above the kitchen area. There was some background noise, so if you're a light sleeper, or staying at a time where you need to maximise your sleep, I would ask them to put you in a quiet room. However, it wasn't a big deal for us, so I can't say I'd discourage booking on this basis, purely about personal taste.
It's fair to say we'd be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Pleas read review above
