“excellent value on a Sunday evening”
Reviewed 7 June 2010

I booked this as a last minute idea as we had been to London for the day. For the rate of £25 for a double room including cooked breakfast it was brilliant value. The room was similar to a travel lodge but very clean. Our TV had freeview channels, there was tea and coffee in room and plenty of hot water. It was a very quiet room overlooking the woods at the back with a very comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and the food in the pub excellent. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay if you are in the area.

It looks nice from the outside, but the rooms are in a separate modern block at the back. Dinner in the bar was adequate, but a bit disappointing. Breakfast was quite reasonable. Room not bad, but the TV was small and five terrestrial channels only. One good thing about the "hotel" is direct access to Yately Common - good for a stroll in the evening.
I do think they need improve the service, to be reasonably called a hotel. In the night I got an injury and needed medical attention. The only instructions in the room for an emergency were to call reception, but there was no reply, so I called an ambulance. When they arrived the ambulance crew couldn't get in; eventually they found a fire exit open, and only then someone arrived from the hotel. Good job the injury wasn't life theeatening.

This hotel is convienant for motorway and local routes in the area. Although the hotel is on a fairly busy road (Sunday particularly due to popular local market) we had no traffic noise and we slept with our window open. If you are staying at the weekend then booking a table at the restuarant is probably a good idea. We had room service dinner and this arrived very quickly even though the restuarant/pub was very busy. Staff friendly, helpful and receptive. We probably would stay again should we need to be in that area.

Nice traditional old coaching inn, which is the pub and restaurant. However, the rooms are in a utilitarian purpose built brick block around the back.

Room was clean, with clothes rail, but no drawers for clothes other than bedside tables. Small but adequate bathroom with shower over the bath. We had room next to corridor door which banged noisily, and stairs which creaked and groaned very loudly.

All staff very friendly, except grumpy young waiter at breakfast on second morning.

Good breakfast served 8am to 10am weekends and public holidays, 7am to 9am working week days, so when staff started hoovering in dining room at 8:30am it was very annoying indeed. Good breakfasts, but staff did not remove crumbs from previous diners before setting up for next customer - on most tables (not a "one-off"), which was surprising considering their generally pleasant and helpful manner.

Despite the above, quite a pleasant short stay, perhaps not somewhere to stay for a long leisure break, but perhaps better for business lodging.

Positive:
Great pub
Good ale
Good food
Great breakfast
Clean rooms
Comfy beds
Free reliable Wi-Fi
Staff are OK
Good location off main road, but quiet.

Negatives:
Some rooms have a crap TV, others with more modern LCD
Bathrooms need updating a bit (wrestling with the shower curtain)
Staff aren't always on reception as work in the pub too

Overall, great value for money in this part of the world. Mid-week rate I normally get is around £65, which when you add free wi-fi and quality cooked breakfast, it represents excellent value. I stay down here almost every other week and this is the first place I try to book.

Three of us stayed here on business. The rooms are comfortable, clean and very functional. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Food was very reasonable and very good. Service on Sunday eveniung was slow in the restuarant ,but on Monday we pre-ordered and it was ready when we arrived. Cooked breakfadst came almost as soon as we had ordered it. Would definitely stay here again. I think it might be noisy at yhe weekend.

Like all hotels you get the good and the bad, but often it's only the bad points that are written here.

We needed a hotel for one night close to Farnborough to attend a family funeral. I travelled down with my wife and two kids under 5. Louise on the desk answered all my questions honestly before we booked over the phone, as obviously I had read some of the comments here. Louise was also on duty when we arrived and she was terrific in the way she coped with my two youngsters after a long car journey as we checked in. After showing us to our first room(which was fine) she suggested another down the corridor would be better as it was a bit bigger. She even ran down and got us more towels when we asked for them. The room was great, nice and warm and easy to access. The only minor points I could really find were, yes the bathroom could probably do with a re-paint, the bathroom fan rumbles on for 15 mins after switching the light off(we left the mirror light on and this was bright enough once the kids were asleep,) and the TV was tiny with only the standard 5 channels.

Food is provided in the pub/restaurant in front of the accommodation block. We ate a wonderful meal in the restaurant and the girls on duty were very efficient and helpful. They even provided a 'kids pack' to each of my children to keep them amused. Breakfast was in the same place and was superb too.

I spend lots and lots of time in hotels around the world and even top hotels have problems. I would stay here again, the price was right, the food great and the staff really terrific. Thank you
