We stayed at Lime Wood for a short-break Honeymoon (family commitments etc!) and we were immediately wowed by the beautifully, understated atmophere and class of the place. It was everything we had hoped for. Fabulous.

The sheer attention to detail brought into focus the comparison to our many previous 5* experiences - this ranged from the space and decor of the rooms and communal areas, to the quality and choice of food and drink. The Herb House spa surpassed anything we have experienced before (even though there was a fault which meant no bubbles in the huge jacuzzi pool for one day).

The only detracting factor was the final cost. We're not normally particularly wary of this and afterall, the whole intention for our stay was to have the best for our celebration - but it certainly soon added up!

Ultimately, this is fine as (sadly?) you often really do get what you pay for in life, but charging an automatic service charge for even the bar, which already charged premium prices, and breakfast - we thought was a bit cheeky.

We had a long weekend here recently and loved it. Lovely large room. The design throughout the hotel is inspired and the spa was one of the best I've been to. The food in both the scullery and dining room was very nice, the sommelier in particular was very good and the staff all very nice. There were a few issues; I have never stayed in a place where the domestic staff interfered with belongings so much in a room by tidying them away. I had to leave them a note to ask them to leave things were they were. The bicycles need some attention. There was a very uncomfortable 13 mile ride on a seat that kept tipping upwards. People smoking outside Raw and Cured can be smelt in the swimming pool which is a bit disgusting when you are swimming and exercising, so they should probably stop that, but all in all it's a great place and I can recommend it.

Wow! My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary with 2 nights to ourselves while our daughter was looked after by her grandparents. Granted, the sheer joy of being child free for a while and able to properly relax meant we would have enjoyed ourselves almost anywhere, but still Limewood was impressive and just the tonic we needed. Our 'Generous' room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable with a balcony looking out over the Forest. Welcome was friendly and just the right side of informal. There was a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room to congratulate us, which we were impressed with as I didn't even remember telling them when booking why we were there. Drinks in the bar were a joy and dinner in the Scullery on the first night was very enjoyable. Once again at the end of the meal we were bought a plate of petit fours one a plate piped with 'Congratulations' - really thoughtful. Limewood is so conducive to relaxation I defy anyone not to chill out while there - breakfasts in our room were fabulous, we took one of their walks through the New Forest and the only other living thing we met were wild horses, the spa treatments we had were divine (I feel asleep during my facial and reflexology), the outdoor spa pool is fabulous (we spent over an hour in there late afternoon with close to 0 degrees temperatures outside - the only thing missing here is the ability to order a glass of fizz while you wallow!!), the pool was lovely and almost empty, and the indoor hydrotherapy areas were great fun (and we had them to ourselves). Despite being full when we visited, we hardly saw any other guests except in the restaurants - it was very peaceful. The real surprise was dinner in the fine dining restaurant - it was sublime. We haven't had food like that outside of London for a long time.
It is difficult to think of anything we'd change - but the one thing would be to give guests first dibs on tables in the restaurants which are open to non residents. It is difficult to get a table if you haven't booked way in advance, especially in the fine dining restaurant, which is a travesty as its so good. Also, the hotel is very, very expensive. We were not complaining as we had the most wonderful time, but we did wince slightly when we saw the bill.
We often visit Babington House with our daughter if we want some family time away but we thought we'd give Limewood a try, even though it is more expensive. We weren't expecting to love it as much as we did. We have already booked to go back with our daughter next year.

I booked Limewood for a surprise birthday weekend treat for my husbands birthday. I had read a few bits and pieces about the hotel and was particularly interested as it had a spa and a choice of eating places. I was not prepared for how gorgeous it was however! From the moment that we arrived we were shown to our room whilst our our car was parked. The grounds, landscaping and buildings in Limewood are stunning, fantastic styles and designs which all fit together leaving you wondering which part is original to the Regency main house. Our room(s) was in the crescent, a row of new Englandesque lodges, ours was on two floors with a log fire in the bedroom and the lounge. The attention to detail in the room and bathroom was gorgeous luxurious and very cool. The spa..ahh.. amazing, huge hydrotherapy pool, huge sauna, steam outdoor hot pool,(fab in the dark in the wind and rain!) Lovely music, very relaxing with views into the forest! The food was very good in both restaurants, we had our bedroom fire lit for when we returned from dinner each night wonderful! The small army of very discrete but impeccably mannered staff were very impressive and all seemed incredibly happy to be working there. We left Limewood with heavy hearts but rested souls, two days relaxing there felt like a week, I cant wait to go back! Loved it.

Limewood is our 'special' destination for birthdays, anniversaries, valentines (basically any excuse to visit) and this was our 4th stay, not including several other lunches, afternoon teas etc and it is now back to its best. This time it was my wife's birthday and once again, we were given a room upgrade plus bottle of wine in the room. All the staff went out of their way to ensure we were well looked after from the guy who parked the car to the scullery restaurant manager. Our last visit was in March and it wasn't as good as usual but interestingly this time we didn't recognise many of the staff....maybe they have been on a recruitment drive?
The spa is wonderful and my wife was able to enjoy a full day in there whilst i worked from the room. We really would recommend Raw & Cured restaurant in the spa for wonderfully fresh and original food.
Top tip - You can do Limewood 'on the cheap' if you book a mid week special deal and take a kettle and tea and coffee as it is not supplied.

Thanks Justin and team...we had a great stay and can't wait to come back

Room Tip: We always tell the hotel if it is our birthday or anniversary and have always been upgraded

Vsited six weeks or so ago, for sunday lunch on a friends birthday.
Have to agree with comments on the fabulous location and surroundings, I'd also mention the wonderful relaxed ambience of the place, just 'chilling' on the terrace with a galss of bubbly in the autumn sun was fabulous.
Sunday lunch was was good but the main course was served at a lukewarm temperature which rather spoilt the experience somewhat... thought it was just mine, so didn't makea fuss and say something .. turns out we all had the same complaint.

Would love to go back some time soon, in fact my wife returned recently and ate in the scullery with friends and loved it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Lime Wood, a boutique country house hotel in England, is set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, 1.5 miles from the small town of Lyndhurst and just an hour and a half drive from London. We like to think of ourselves as a luxury country house hotel with a difference. We've used Lime Wood's classical structure as the basis of our design but we've lovingly renovated it with a fresh approach, reviving its architecture and grounds. We've kept the spirit of its past, taken inspiration from its extraordinarily beautiful surroundings and added the odd contemporary twist to bring it to life. The food is by Luke Holder and Angela Hartnett. With its proximity to London, our New Forest boutique hotel really is the ultimate countryside getaway; perfect for weekend breaks, a dash from the city, or an escape from home; whatever your motivations, we can't wait to show you around. ... more   less
