My wife and I have just returned from a one night stay. Despite the absolutely beautiful decor and furnishings set in a grand building, the staff set a relaxed tone to the hotel which was apparent from the initial reception on arrival.

Our room was tasteful and extremely comfortable, the public areas are finished with almost unbelievable detail, the spa is huge and sumptuous and the food (in the Dinning Room) was on a par with some of the best food we have ever enjoyed.

It is an expensive hotel (our one night stay cost £420) but it truly a price worth paying. Our only minor quibble was that there should be a B&B rate!

We will be going back again.

Was very excited for the weekend break and had heard amazing things about the hotel. Now while most of it didn't disappoint there were a couple things that did. When driving in at night the hotel sign is very hard to read and was glad to see the next day the scenery was hard to miss. They offer a lot to do with bike riding and forest walks. After some time exploring we hit the spa and really got to relax. Its one of the best spas in the UK as far as I am concerned and we were really looking forward to some afternoon tea and a board game. When we were looking for a spot we realized there was almost no where to sit. With two baby showers and multiple large family parties most of the hang out areas of the hotel were filled with non hotel guests. It takes away from the intimacy of the place all the large parties. I understand being open to the public but limiting seating for people paying for the (not so cheap) hotel rooms seems silly. For our final night we made a reservation at their dining room and went to the bar for a drink before only to find that all the tables there had been reserved. We were escorted to another room but it felt a bit wrong to not even be able to sit at the bar as a hotel guest. Dinner was delicious though and with a great wine selection it was easy to let everything else slip away. I did enjoy my experience but what makes these hotels great is feeling like you are in someones home. Having to reserve every meal, every tea, every drink takes away from that which is a shame because the hotel really does have a lot to offer. I do recommend it but I think there are some areas that need more work for the price you pay.

The worst thing about Lime Wood is leaving the place. It is a paradise in the New Forest and comes extremely highly recommended.

Justin and his team worked very hard to every aspect of our stay was just right. We wanted for nothing and enjoyed our 4-day stay immensely.

The Pig (sister restaurant) is also superb and well worth a visit.

Having visited more than once and enjoyed the experience, Lime Wood has a reputation to uphold. However yesterday we were there as part of a family event and although the food was very good, the setting and hotel beautiful, it seemed to be staffed by inexperienced students or people whose grasp of English was not up to scratch. From being served cream in our cup of tea to having to wait twenty minutes for a bottle of wine (only to be told they didn't have it), it was not what we would have expected, especially for the price. A little disheartened - we won't be rushing back. What a shame as with a little training and careful staff selection our visit could have met our expectations.

What a treat. After reading good reviews we decided to book a room at Lime Wood for one night. The hotel is just amazing. Not everything was perfect but it has a fabulous ambiance and the staff can't do enough for you. We were shown around the hotel before going into our 'generous' room. We have stayed at some great hotels over the years, so it is not often we go 'wow' when we walk in a room - but this room was stunning and your every need had been thought of.

The spa is out of this world too - professional, caring staff. I didn't want to leave after a one hour massage, but I floated back to our hotel on a cloud.

We ate in the Scullery at lunchtime which was good food but service was slightly slow! The Dining room in the evening is beautiful - it would be lovely to sit outside in the evening in the summer. We thought the menu was slightly pretentious but that is a personal thing. What we had was great but we struggled slightly to find something we fancied.

We would definitely go back - but will have to save first - it ain't cheap!! And 12.5% service is added on every bill!

After many weeks of Internet searches myself and two friends selected Lime Wood to celebrate our 30th birthdays and we are so glad we did. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and special. The spa is just fantastic, we spent an hour in the mud house which I would recommend, my skin had never felt so soft. We decided to dine out in the evening due to the mixed reviews of the restaurants and the cost but returned to have Bailey's hot chocolates by the roaring fire in our room which had been lit by the fantastic staff. After a brilliant nights sleep in extremely comfy beds we had breakfast delivered to our room which was lovely and brought to our room at exactly 9am (to the minute!) as requested. We chose the £12.50 breakfast selection which contained so much choice it kept us going until tea time! After a stroll around the beautiful grounds we returned to the spa for a massage, we all chose the Bamford de stress massage and were not disappointed...we had to retire to the relaxation rooms following as were totally de-stressed! Again the hours flew by and it was so time for us to leave but we are already planning (and saving!) for our return stay. I would thoroughly recommend, nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff and although the staff reported that the hotel was full, we really felt like we were the only guests. In summary, just perfect!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Lime Wood, a boutique country house hotel in England, is set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, 1.5 miles from the small town of Lyndhurst and just an hour and a half drive from London. We like to think of ourselves as a luxury country house hotel with a difference. We've used Lime Wood's classical structure as the basis of our design but we've lovingly renovated it with a fresh approach, reviving its architecture and grounds. We've kept the spirit of its past, taken inspiration from its extraordinarily beautiful surroundings and added the odd contemporary twist to bring it to life. The food is by Luke Holder and Angela Hartnett. With its proximity to London, our New Forest boutique hotel really is the ultimate countryside getaway; perfect for weekend breaks, a dash from the city, or an escape from home; whatever your motivations, we can't wait to show you around. ... more   less
