A friend and I stayed for only one night but it was a night I shall not soon forget! When we eventually found the hotel hidden away between the wild ponies and moor we were stunned by the beautiful hotel. The hotel offers valet parking and boys in caps take your luggage for you. Reception is smart and and welcoming and the girls behind the desk wear riding boots and jeans making it feel even more like a nice country retreat. We were shown to our room in the main building of the hotel and were greeted by Louis Armstrong playing softly on an ipod. it doesn't sound like a great deal but it made the room welcoming, not as if we had just arrived but as though we had always been there. The main bedroom window overlooked the drive and the grounds and the other looked over the other buildings of the hotel. The bathroom was stunning, i wanted to take it home with me! White marble with a huge window directly over the entrance of the hotel. the bath was large and the shower could fit 5 people comfortably.
dinner that evening was very special. it was my first Michelan starred meal and it didn't disappoint. the service was friendly and efficient. the menu had good variety and the food was delicious. Max's bar, and Max himself, were delightful. there was a roaring fire and the room itself is very cozy. the cocktails were excellent and the bar tender was kind enough to make my favorite drink that was not on the list.
after a long hard day or doing hardly anything the bedroom was an oasis of comfort. Breakfast the next day was lovely and the buffet was nicely displayed. the breakfast dining room is a lovely light room and pleasant to stay in.
the only thing i have to complain about is the fact that i had to leave! the experience was 100% enjoyable. i would like to come back in the summer and take advantage of some of the activities the hotel offers like horseback riding, off-roading, archery, falconry, and kayaking. i especially recommend this hotel for people from overseas like me. Being Californian i've never had the pleasure of staying in a hotel like this and would have a hard time finding a place to touch up on my archery skills. i highly recommend this hotel.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Lime Wood, a boutique country house hotel in England, is set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, 1.5 miles from the small town of Lyndhurst and just an hour and a half drive from London. We like to think of ourselves as a luxury country house hotel with a difference. We've used Lime Wood's classical structure as the basis of our design but we've lovingly renovated it with a fresh approach, reviving its architecture and grounds. We've kept the spirit of its past, taken inspiration from its extraordinarily beautiful surroundings and added the odd contemporary twist to bring it to life. The food is by Luke Holder and Angela Hartnett. With its proximity to London, our New Forest boutique hotel really is the ultimate countryside getaway; perfect for weekend breaks, a dash from the city, or an escape from home; whatever your motivations, we can't wait to show you around. ... more less
