“Rude rude rude, won't be back...”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

So...where to start with Acres Down Farm. This was our third visit and will be our last. Site is good but as others have pointed out the owners and staff are just too rude. They were all smiles when i arrived in full wedding attire and asked us if it was ok to pay for 2 nights as this was standard for a bank holiday. I obliged and was told to keep receipt and i would get the days refund back the next day due to us only staying 1 night. The following day after a morning cup of tea we took the receipt back to owner who stated i was too late for a refund as it has to be before 10.30 (it was about 10.50). I very politely stated this was not pointed out to me and was told it was on the board and i should of read it. The board had not been out so they quickly then decided to put the board out. I explained again that this was not made clear and the owner said "well that's just the way it is" and slammed the door in my face. Ridiculous behaviour and a real shame as they've lost a loyal customer who would have returned many times.

We'd been looking forward to camping at acres farm since walking past it a few weeks ago. The farm shops looks lovely and we thought it would be a great place to go walking from. Sadly, when we arrived this afternoon we were told in a nasty manner that our campervan was not "proper" and she did not allow this kind of vehicle.

The van is similar to a VW campervan and visitors with tents were allowed to park their cars on the field anyway. Not only was this a strange rule, the way she turned us away was very rude and upsetting.

We wouldn't recommend going to this campsite as the customer service is very poor.

We haven't reviewed any campsites before but we felt so strongly about how we were treated we wanted to warn anyone thinking of arriving in a less than sparkling brand new campervan, (preferably a "Hymer"!). If you want to see a friendly face this place is not for you!

My family stayed at the campsite on the 17th May and found the place wonderful. The weather helped but i couldn’t have asked for more. I’ve stayed in the forest a few times but mainly on the larger sites and there is no comparison. We paid £14 per night for our large tent and not per person or per child like the other sites. We were told that it was a basic site and that was reflected in the price, however it wasn’t that basic. There were clean toiles and wonderful hot showers (£1 per person) a farm shop selling all the burgers and sausages you could ever eat. The owner ran a cream tea business and that was yummy and the best of all you could just walk out into the forest and the site was on a main cycle route through the forest.
Read trip advisor as much as you want, you get out of and visit what you put in. What trip this site doesn’t tell you is about the customers from hell. In the morning my daughter came from the toilets saying a lady was blocking the toilets up with paper and flooding the basins and emptying the soap dispensers. I later heard that the owners threw them off site. Good riddance and good for the owners.
Over all we had a great time and will be back.

We turned up at about 7.15 as it was just getting dark and got 'told off' for arriving late. This was after trying to book first by email (no reply) and then by phone where we were told we couldn't book, just turn up. We too found the lady owner to be unbelievably rude. It would have been funny if we weren't stuck in the middle of nowhere with no idea what we were going to do. She let us in and took our money, thrust a bin bag at us and said 'you'd better use it' then told us we would be sharing the field with 60 D of E students. We didn't hang around, instead we demanded our money back and made other plans.

I wouldn't recommend staying here and I wish we'd read the Tripadvisor reviews before we arrived. There are so many other lovely sites throughout the New Forest, you don't need to waste your time here. Some people should not work in the service industry. and this lady just had no idea how to talk to people, how to be welcoming or friendly or even just a little bit nice! She should not be running a campsite!

I have stayed here a number of times, and always enjoy it.
The camp site is basic, with a couple of showers at £1, toilets, hot & cold water, and not a lot else. And that is just the way I like it.
This camp site is on a working farm, and breakfast is available in the farmhouse, if booked the night before, this is a little pricey for what you get, but if it saves me taking a cooking stove etc. then I am in favour of this breakfast.
There is also a farm shop which provides some provisions, and is well maintained and stocked.
The site is off the main road, with access to open countryside (The New Forest) and its walkways and cycleways right outside the gate.
The cost of this site compares very favourably to many others in and around the new Forest.

My family and i had a wonderful stay here. Such a pretty setting, plenty of walks in the stunning area. Camp site was well kept, clean and tidy. The cream teas were wonderful. Lashings of cream, homemade jam and lots of scomes. We had a feast. Will be returning next year.

Ended up here on a Sunday for a cream tea. Well if this is the best in the New forest I'm glad we didn't go anywhere else. The owners of this dump have obviously never been to Devon or Cornwall to see how a proper cream tea should be served. Sloppy jam, too runny to stay on the minute scone, no clotted cream but some fluffed up tasteless cream. The pot of tea was ok though, and plenty of it, unlike the scones. Also no provision for young children, ie soft drinks. The owners manners could do with a look at too, she gave very short thrift to any constructive comments, a case of if you don't like it, go somewhere else. I suggest you do.
