Charming hotel steeped in history with lots of very old features eg the oldest working lift in the world. Rooms were large, all different and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful particularly Ross and Tony on Reception. The bar, breakfast room, lounge and garden are equally attractive. Lyndhurst is a lovely small town and the hotel is surrounded by places of interest to visit, as well as being a glorious walking area. The hotel was ideal for our week-end break and we will definitely go back and recommend it to our friends.

My second stay at this hotel. The staff are very friendly, and polite. The breakfast was good. I dont mind if the hotel can be a bit noisy due to the wooden floors, it all ads to the charm of the hotel. After a day in the New Forest sleeping is not a problem. Cant wait till i return for another holiday break.

Thank you kindly for your review and your positive feedback about our staff and charismatic hotel!
As the building dates back to the 1600's it is difficult to iron out all of the quirky creeks as you can imagine! However, we also feel that the charm of the hotel is what we strive to maintain, it is what makes us unique.
We look forward to welcoming you back for your third visit soon and hope that you enjoy it as thoroughly as your previous 2.

Kind regards

I recently stayed for a two night break at the Crown Hotel. Having read a selection of tripadvisor reviews I wasn't too sure what to expect from the hotel but I had a great stay. I requested a top floor room at the back of the hotel prior to travel and that was precisely what I got - thank you. Room 209 was bright, airy and looked as if it had recently been redecorated. Both the bedroom and ensuite bathroom were very spacious and comfortable. My only criticism of the hotel is that the walls between rooms are paper thin and you may hear more than you may wish to!

Breakfast was fine with a good selection of continental and cooked items and the staff were efficient and well turned out. I ate in the Bistro one evening and my meal was delicious.

While in Lyndhurst I visited Furzey Gardens for an afternoon, it was a delightful place to visit and would appeal to all ages. Lyndhurst itself is quaint and full of tea shops.

We stayed in a room at the front of the hotel which was extrememly noisy and ridiculously warm (even with the requested fan) - The room was clean but incredibly shabby with unpainted wood around the doors and threadbare carpets - The major plus point was that the staff were very very helpful and the overall service was excellent, however we would hesitate to stay there again due to the quality of the room

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us this review. All feedback is crucial to us as a hotel and both positive and negative comments are taken on board in order to improve our services for future guests.

I am so pleased that our staff managed to make your stay comfortable and were friendly and helpful throughout your visit. Apologies for the door frame of your room not being finished, we are currently undergoing renovations to all of our bedroom doors to work with our new key card system and these will all be completed soon.

I do hope that this matter does not deter you from returning to The Crown Hotel in the future.

Kind regards

As part of a weekend break in Lyndhurst my partner and I stayed in the Crown Hotel for two nights.

Firstly, let me say the staff at the hotel are very good - can't really be faulted, especially the bar and breakfast staff.

The first night was very good although (and this becomes clear later on) the walls and floors are paper thin. The second night...well, my tip to you would be to follow the advice lower down and make sure you get a top floor room.

Our room (109) was next to what had to be the linen cupboard (the door creaked so loudly it was as though someone was in the room) and directly above the 'lounge' area. Not a problem, unless people sit in the 'lounge' talking very, very loudly and laughing very, very loudly until 4am. Suffice to say neither I nor my partner slept.

I would have loved the hotel if I'd been in a different room. As I wasn't, it was spoilt - and unfortunately knowing about the rooms now doesn't help. Don't let this put you off the hotel, just make sure you avoid 109.

Room Tip: Avoid 109, sample the breakfast

Were welcomed by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. We arrived early so our room was not ready, but we were able to check in and were given tea in the lounge while we waited. We were given the Evergreen suite, which consisted of an enormous lounge, and even bigger bedroom, a large bathroom and a separate toilet and bidet. The suite was extremely comfortable, but it needed a little bit of TLC. Also the shower was not the most efficient we have had. Nevertheless, the staff more than made up for any shortcomings. The food was reasonable, although it could be a little more adventurous. Very convenient for walks in the New Forest and also for getting to Lymington, Bournemouth or Southampton. All in all, a hotel we would not hesitate to stay in again.

Stayed with my wife Lind and our Border Terrier Ted to celibrate my 73rd. birthday. Made very welcome the minute we arrived. Enjoyed our stay and as before at Christmas from the manager to the bedroom maids all workrd hard as a team so that we enjoyed our stay. Ted was well behaved and the hotel is dog friendly.
We are already thinking about returning in the Summer and hoping to attend at Christmas 2011.
