I stayed in this hotel for two nights and would definitely go back again and recommend to others. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was lovely in a nice restaurant area and the rooms are a nice size. Great location near to shops restaurants and pubs all walking distance. The bedrooms could do with a bit of updating and in our room the door had obviously just been redone and it was a bit messy but apart from this we had a lovely stay and will definitely be back later this year

Had a one night stay on our way home from the tunnel crossing. Lyndhurst has a very traffic busy High Street and it is best to avoid school times and rush hours. Lovely traditional style hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was good too. My husband is still raving about the lamb cutlets he had! As a vegetarian I was impressed by the veggie choices. Bathroom was looking a bit tired but was clean and had lovely big towels! We hope that we will return soon.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper probably best to avoid the front rooms because of the early morning traf...

Having read some of the previous reviews, I can concur with the overall feedback. The location is great for exploring the New Forest area, the hotel could do with some areas being refurbished (mainly the rooms) but overall this is a charming hotel with some terrific period features.

The restaurant food was of an excellent standard, but at quite a high price and this was reflected in the low number of diners present. There are other venues within walking distance that we would recommend instead.

The overwhelming plus point of this hotel is the staff. This was the first time we had travelled with a baby and were quite nervous about the trip. We experienced excellent service throughout and from every department in making our stay comfortable. An absolute delight and we will be returning

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel

I recently stayed for three nights at the Crown Hotel whilst in the area on business and enjoyed my stay at the hotel, it offers free wi fi in the public areas which was easy to connect to and worked very well but unfortunately the coverage didn't extend to my room.

The big plus for the hotel are the staff, all very, very friendly and very efficient and it's location in Lyndhurst is excellent and gives easy access to what is a very nice "village" with numeous pubs and restaurants on the doorstep.

The hotel itself is spotlessly clean in all aspects, apart from an ugly looking stain on the divan of my bed, but is very dated, full of character some might say, but in all honesty it does need a bit of a refurb to bring it kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

I didn't eat in the restaurant other than for the very good breakfast but the menu looked good and the smells wafting around were gorgeous.

All in all it was a nice stay, the hotel is quiet, a bit old fashioned and a bit dated but I would much rather stay somewhere like The Crown than one of the soulless, plastic city centre chain hotels.

My only grumble would be that I asked for a quiet room and ended up at the front of the hotel on the first floor directly overlooking the main road which is very noisy with heavy goods vehicles regularly passing outside the window day and night, it wasn't a massive problem for me but would be a concern for light sleepers or someone looking specifically for a peaceful haven but I'm guessing it may have been the fault of the booking agent rather than the hotel anyway.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the rear of the hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. Our room was on the 2nd floor; was large & very comfortable & overlooked the garden. The bathroom was large with good water pressure. There was no fridge or air-conditioning (but we found that was typical of a lot of hotels in the UK). Check-in staff were friendly & efficient. The hotel was old but had a lot of character. Breakfast was good with a varied selection. We didn’t eat any other meals there although can recommend the Fox & Hounds pub just down the road which had good food & atmosphere.

Although the hotel is very clean and we had a nice room, the hotel is very dated . We arrived after a long journey and ordered sandwiches and coffee but found them overpriced. A choice of thick or thin bread would have been nice. The room was very hot and a fan was provided but not very effective, the windows could not be opened as the hotel is on a major road though to southahmpton and then traffic is constand from 4am. It sounded like the lorries were coming through the bedroom. The bedroom would shake. We looked at the menu but the prices were excessive and choice limited. There is an excellent pub Fox and Hounds accross the road serving wonderful food at less than half the price.

Room Tip: eat at the Fox and hounds pub

Thank you for taking the time to write this review; Our prices for sandwiches are £4.75 and speciality coffee’s are £2.50 bean to cup quality, however to offer a choice of thick or thin sliced bread could be an improvement that we could offer in the future.
My apologies for not meeting your expectations on this occasion and we will endeavour to continue to improve our standards from customer comments.
Once again, many thanks for your feedback

Charming hotel steeped in history with lots of very old features eg the oldest working lift in the world. Rooms were large, all different and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful particularly Ross and Tony on Reception. The bar, breakfast room, lounge and garden are equally attractive. Lyndhurst is a lovely small town and the hotel is surrounded by places of interest to visit, as well as being a glorious walking area. The hotel was ideal for our week-end break and we will definitely go back and recommend it to our friends.
