“Good stay, better when work has finished”
Reviewed 31 May 2013

Spent one night at the hotel in a family room that fronts on to the main road.

The room was clean and newly painted and we could not hear the noise from the traffic outside much, so don't let that bother you.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good. It's location is central to Lyndhurst so useful when walking around the town.

The hotel is going through a final phase of refurbishment so is very 'new' and the workmen were very friendly.

Overall, once the work has been completed it will be a very good place to stay and we will return one day.

i booked this hotel as a little get away for me and my wife for our wedding anniversary the hotel is old but full of charm its on the high street so every shop and restaurant local. our room at the back was nice, neat and modern . it was cleaned during the day as the bed was made every time we arrived back from a day out. breakfast was excellent the choice was very very good and i'm a coffee drinker and i asking for another pot was no problem at all. we were warned about the renovating going on during our stay i'm a builder by trade and understand things need modernizing and work needs to be carried out at various times, the builders were very polite .
we would definitely recommend this hotel

Room Tip: rooms at the back quieter

Our whole trip was surrounded by disaster.
My mother in law fell seriously ill the night before we were due to arrive at the Crown Manor House Hotel and was rushed to hospital. I contacted the hotel to ask if we could move our reservation as we needed to go to the hospital. They said no which considering the circumstances was rather cruel. We have a guest house at home and will always try to make allowances for our clients.

In the end my husband and I spent the day in the hospital and drove late on the sat night as we didn’t want to waste our money. On arrival we were presented with a building site.
At no point during my booking (directly with the hotel) was I informed any renovations were occurring and I felt so upset. We were already emotional with the family situation and to be faced with wet paint signs, a smell of turps and no clear marking from the car park to even get inside it was all too much.

To give them some credit our room must have been recently done up and though small for a superior four poster room it was clean, tidy and the bed was comfortable.

Breakfast was not great, and the genre of classical music that had been chose to accompany us was more akin to that at a funeral than a breakfast.

All in all we paid a lot of money for a very medioka stay at a hotel where the staff had no understanding about personal circumstances.

Room Tip: make sure all building work is finished and that no one if you family gets ill!

Dear jlafLONDON,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, as all feedback is greatly valued.

I am pleased to learn that you found your room clean and tidy, and your king size bed comfortable. Our beds are from the only company approved to supply the Royal Household.

I was disappointed to learn that breakfast which is included in our room rates, did not meet your expectations, and this will be discussed with the Chef, as normally this receives very positive comments from our guests.

I apologise for any inconvenience you may have experienced, as a result of the final minor works that were being carried out upon arrival at the hotel, and can confirm that all
re-furbishment has now been completed.

I trust that you can appreciate that when a late cancellation is received, it is not possible for the room allocated to be re-sold, and I am pleased that you decided to stay.

I hope you will choose to stay with us again on a future occasion, for a relaxing break, and as such please do not hesitate to contact me so that I can personally look after your reservation.

Very clean, smart hotel. Obviously recently refurbished rooms with very smart bathrooms in particular. We stayed in a four poster room, which was very nice. Overlooking the road, so some road noise but nothing too bad. Great food - room service were excellent. My only fault was that the actual bed itself was very uncomfortable! Lovely staff, all very friendly and efficient. Will definitely recommend (just hope in the refurb they also replace the mattresses!!).

We booked into this Hotel for an overnight stay as we were attending the Auto jumble at Beaulieu.
There were signs in the car park that renovations were taking place, we entered via the car park at the back, through the bar, a very impressive entrance hall greeted us and a warm welcome from the receptionist. We checked in and were told our room was on the first floor, the lift was out of order (apparently it is one of the oldest in the UK) which would have been interesting. Due to renovations the restaurant was not open. A lot of the building seemed closed up due to work taking place. We had a lovely room overlooking the gardens at the rear. The bathroom was beautifully renovated ( a hairdryer would have been nice though). The bed was extremely comfortable. At 11.05pm just as we were going to sleep, there was a horrendous banging it can only be described as a pneumatic drill going off - it was coming from the radiator after 10 minutes we called down to reception and were told it would be sorted, which it was within minutes but then again 15 minutes later it started up again. My husband went down to reception and the receptionist with spanner in hand informed him he was sorting it (we think it was air in the heating system). eventually the noise stopped only to start up again at 4.38am and again at 5.05am - very infuriating! It was obviously teething problems with the heating system, however, a very tired couple went down in the morning to a lovely breakfast and on check out we did complain to a very sympathetic receptionist. It was such a shame as we liked the Hotel and the location - it would be interesting to go back when all the renovations are complete as I think it will be a little gem.

Room Tip: A room at the rear is nice and peaceful overlooking the garden

Dear Ashabell,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, as all feedback is greatly valued.

I am pleased to learn that you experienced a warm welcome, and enjoyed your newly refurbished room with a view of the gardens, as well as the Full English Breakfast which was included in the rom rate.

Please accept my apologies for the disturbance you experienced from the radiator, which I can confirm was an isolated incident caused by an airlock, and has now been rectified.

I hope very much that you will choose to stay with us again now that the re-furbishments have been completed, and as such please do not hesitate to contact me so that I can personally look after your reservation.

We booked 2 nights stay at the Crown Manor Hotel and we had a fantastic time. Even though the hotel is going through refurbishment it didn't ruin our stay. The room (218) we had has been newly decorated to a very high standard and very quiet considering at the front of the hotel. The breakfast was really lovely and we were very well looked after. We have been to the New Forest about 4 times now and this has been the best hotel, it is in the perfect position in the village and very friendly, I would recommend this hotel not one to be missed. Once the refurb has been completed it will be an amazing place to stay.

We stayed one night for our anniversary and we had a lovely time. The room was recently refurbished and was just lovely, with double double glazing for extra peace and quiet. There is clearly further work going on in the hotel but it didn't impact on us at all. The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was ideal for pottering around Lyndhurst the following morning.
