My husband and myself have just come back from the most relaxing 3 days, the service we received could not have been any better in a 5* Hotel. The rooms were spotless and the breakfast was very good, we stayed in room 2 in the front very quite and extremely comfortable. We are now trying to work out when we can return cannot wait.

If you're looking for accommodation near the New Forest look no further! Rufus House is literally a stones throw away from new forest and just a 5 minute walk into town! 10 /10 for service and affordability. Room was very comfortable and breakfast was delightful! Nothing to fault ! Thank you Rufus House !

Stayed in room 7 which is a twin room at the front of the property.Whilst the room was fine in terms of decor and cleanliness etc I can only liken it to trying to sleep on the side of a busy section of the the M25 with the car windows down. The traffic noise was horrendous and because the heat in the room was so intense it was difficult to make use of the double glazing to deaden the traffic noise. We stayed three nights but seriously considered leaving after 2 sleepless nights .We persevered after resorting to using ear plugs, and despite the heat, closing all the bedroom windows.
How the owners can justify either using this room in the Summer or indeed charging such a high price for such a bad experience I will never know.
In fairness we are only writing this review regarding room 7 and not the Guest House as a whole neither did we eat breakfast there .

Room Tip: Suggest room 7 (twin Room) at the front of the property is both very hot and noisy during the Summer heat with little or no means of making it more comfortable.

We are sorry to learn that you found Twin Room noisy and you did not enjoy your stay with us. We wish you had told us while you were here… which enabled us to find a more suitable accommodation for you in the area. It would not have been a problem; we are here to help our guest to enjoy their stay in The New Forest National Park.

Southampton Road of which the part Lyndhurst village located, is a narrow and not a busy road. Speed limit is 30m/Hr, during the night it is rather quiet. Room 7 is a popular room with many repeat guests, but if you are a very light sleeper like Peter, perhaps this room is not for you.

Lovely summer we had this year, after rooms are cleaned, we draw curtains for the South facing rooms to keep room temperature low while all windows kept open. Desk fans are available upon request, what you needed to do is ‘just ask’.

For all our guests, our priority is for you to relax and enjoy the beauty of The New Forest National Park, please let us know of any problem while you are here, we will help you the best we could which include to find an alternative more suitable accommodation for you.

We stayed for three nights at The Rufus House and found it comfortable and pleasant. My husband and I had one of the turret rooms whilst my daughter had a single upstairs. Rooms were clean and well sized. We found an issue with drying towels in ours - no where to hang damp towels very effectively and our towels were not changed during our stay despite our leaving them in a heap on the floor to be changed. The breakfasts were well presented although, personally I would have liked a little more selection in the cereals offered. The owners were very friendly and obviously took pride in running a good establishment. The impression of the hotel given by the website is of a large detached house set in its own grounds. This is inaccurate. The hotel is situated roadside (a small car park in front) with a garden behind. The "acres of exceptional woodland and open heaths as our front garden" are actually across the road!

Thank you for your review and letting us know of the towels. If towels were left on the floor or basin, replace them with new towels, this is our standard practice. We sincerely apologize as it was not the case for you.

We have reminded all our chambermaids on this point. However, as we are all humans and we could still make errors, it you have any issues during your stay, please do not hesitate to let Etsuko or Ernesto know, we would use our utmost to solve the problem.

Near the centre of Lyndhurst but also adjacent to open forest/common. This place is very clean and extremely comfortable. The owners are lovely and breakfasts are fantastic. We will definitely return.
