A great place to walk and watch the New Forest ponies, you get a good view of the surrounding area and if you're lucky you may even get to watch a local cricket match.

We brought our dogs for a walk here. There is parking at the cattle grid and further up to the left. We went twice. First time we met some mature ladies taking a break to see the ponies. There is a little graveyard nearby and we wandered between this and the bench. The next time was a Saturday, filled with visitors, locals and...ponies. It seems to be a favourite for local runners, families taking a quick picnic and walkers. The bench is on a hill, with views around. It also seemed to be a favourite past time to run or roll down from! It is not too steep, but provides a welcome sitting area if walking through the area. The ponies were lovely, but they are wild so when one reared, I ran for cover, much to visitors delight! Lovely area to start a run, walk or drive into the New Forest. For our visit it was the gateway into the New Forest.

A stones through from the bustling Lyndhurst high street, this tranquil hillock is impossible to miss with it's crown of ancient Yews. The grass is kept short by the grazing ponies, making it an ideal place for children to play, with enough room for families to meet for large-scale picnics.

There are four seperate car parks surrounding it. Nestled on the far side is the village cricket green. The walk from the Bench, past the cricket pitch and up onto the low ridge walk is unique as the only walk in the forest you can undertake without wellies, even in the winter!

Pop down here for an hour and if the sun shines, you will stay all day.
