“Great forest pub for lunch”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 via mobile

Went to High Corner Inn for my birthday lunch with my family. Food was fantastic, great location and friendly staff. Service was good. First time I'd been here in 10 years and food has definatly improved if not slightly pricey. Price was not a problem as food was good. Obviously they have a good quality butcher as a supplier and someone good in the kitchen. Worth a visit especially on a sunny day when you can sit in the garden.

A superb location literally in the middle of the Forest, friendly and efficient staff, good food and a great welcome. We have stayed at High Corner several times, and have just returned after a week's stay- riding (we brought our own horses with us) and walking the dog in the Forest. We had what I think is their best room- huge-and it has doors opening straight out on to the patio, - great for taking the dog out first thing in the morning. Dogs are welcomed (and there is no charge for them to stay).
Food was excellent, and enough variety for staying the week. Lunch times tend to be very busy, in particular at weekends, with walkers/cyclists starting/finishing their day there, but the staff are very efficient, and waiting times were never excessive. Breakfasts are excellent- you need to walk off the calories after them!
This time we were blessed with superb weather, but we have stayed there when the weather has been less clement, and then there was always a nice fire in the bar where we could dry out.
One word of warning- staying there is not for those who cannot be parted from continual information on their smart phone! We needed to walk up the hill for a mobile phone signal, and wi-fi (free when working) is intermittent. We found it great to be without these!
The New Forest is the most superb place for those wanting to walk in open country or in forest - either short distances (road access to a lot of it is very good) or further afield for the adventurous. You can go almost anywhere you want within the forest- and other than in mountain areas, there are few places in the UK where this is possible. High Corner's position right within the Forest makes it unique. We look forward to our next visit.

Arrived on a very busy Sunday lunchtime. As expected there was a queue for the carvery, but that was fine. Carvery was excellent quality and staff were very friendly. Good amount of tables inside and out. A good place to take children and dogs.

Last evening we held a party for my mother in laws 90th birthday. Most people usually associate this Inn to have lunch, dinner and stay if you are visiting the New Forest but we were lucky to be able to book the function room which had recently been redecorated and had this party for 45 people ages ranging from 1 to 90. The staff helped us chose menus from which our friends and family could chose, and everybody could not believe how much food was given, we had a 3 course meal and afterwards everyone said how lovely it was, it was well presented and served hot. We arranged for pre dinner drinks so people who have not seen relatives for years could mingle which was nice. We had a little dance at the end of the evening which was nice and we were completely separate for the hotel. I know Jean had a lovely evening and I would recommend you give David or Will a ring if you have a function where you can wine and dine your family say up to 50 people. You will not regret it.

Travelled down from Bristol for Bank Holiday lunch and a stroll in the New Forest. Although the inn was busy we received a warm and friendly reception and our drinks and food orders were taken with no problems even though we asked for something off menu. The food came quite quickly considering the number of customers at the time and was delicious. Thanks to all staff involved.

Had a family birthday meal for 16 on a wet Sunday lunchtime. Most of us had the carvery and the food was very good. There was a choice of beer, pork or gammon and all were very nice.

My son had a burger which was excellent and the childrens neal was perfecly acceptable. Desserts were rich and filling

There was a good selection of vegtables which unusually for a carvery were not over cooked!

Whilst there is no table service the staff looked afer us well. Prices are reasonable

We will certainly visit again in the summer and grab one of the outside seats in the big garden area

We stayed here for just the one night. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Both breakfast and the evening meal we had were of a very high standard. Would definately stay here again. Great location, great views.
