“A nice cottage ”
Reviewed 23 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

Arrived for 2 nights for a family wedding. The wife and I had a double room which was very well presented and had plenty of space, which was a good thing as we needed the space for a travel cot for our daughter.
All the amenities are available, Wi-Fi however was a bit hit and miss though.
Be pre warned this is a cottage that sleeps 8 and there is only 1 room with en suite and 1 shared bathroom so make sure you get in before the bathroom hoggers lol!
The only reason I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 is because of the Wi-Fi although I am on Vodafone network and 4g works very well here.
For a nice weekend stay in the new forest to do some sightseeing then this is more than adequate for your needs.

“A comfortable, welcoming cottage in a splendid location”

After an awful lot of searching for somewhere reasonably large and yet affordable in the New Forest area to hold a bit of a family gathering, we struck gold when we booked Highcroft Cottage. It fitted the bill just perfectly.

The accommodation comprises: on the ground floor, a large dining room, a living room (complete with a log burner and a generous basket of logs), a well-equipped kitchen, a single bedroom with an en suite accessible shower room, a small toilet; upstairs, there's a bathroom, a large double bedroom, a room with two single beds, and a room with a double and a single. Outside, there's an enclosed lawned area with a picnic table and chairs. There were seven of us for some of the time - five adults, two toddlers - and we had more than enough space.

It isn't desperately modern in decor and fixtures, but we found it to be really comfortable and homely. It's mostly clean and tidy: the en suite shower room has seen better days and is rather grotty, but that was very much the exception. Not having another shower was a bit of a pain when the house was full too. These are minor quibbles, however, especially given the price.

It's very light and airy, and there are lovely views from many of the windows of the gardens and nearby woods. Although there are other buildings nearby and adjoining, the atmosphere (toddlers permitting) is peaceful and restful, bird song mixing with the sounds of the farm.

The garden, while small, catches the sun and provides a perfect play area for the children, particularly as it has an outside tap. The plants might not need watering for a while! Older children might find it less satisfactory, but could easily be sent to find entertainment in the woods. Those woods are accessible through the back gate and are glorious on a sunny day; once you work it out, you can walk through them to the centre of the village without crossing any busy roads. And, of course, you can always pop next door to the Cider Pantry for a delicious lunch.

Overall, then, we were absolutely delighted with our find. It feels like a cosy, comfortable home-from-home, nestled into a really superb location.

“Lovely cottage, very comfortable”

Prime location to go cycling, walking, beaches and discovering the forest. Easy to get to everywhere in Hants and New Forest we wanted to visit.

“Great stay in the New Forest.”
Reviewed 22 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

A great location, right in the village of Burley, backing up onto the heath in the New Forest. The house itself is fine - older, but good beds and a nice dining room. One room is a single; another has a double and a single bed. The hosts were very curteous!

“Cosy Christmas in the New Forest”
Reviewed 29 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

This was the perfect setting for our family get-together over Christmas. All rooms were well presented. The bedrooms are spacious; the lounge is cosy with its wood burner and the dining room easily coped with our party of eight, as did the kitchen with the pattern of meals typical for a Christmas menu. The location is ideal with the New Forest literally on the doorstep. Burley village centre is a short walk away with teashops, cycle hire and a great little shop with a butcher's. The Cider Farm and teashop is right next door and well worth visiting (probably more than once). We made a lovely stew with local pork from the village butcherand code from the farm - a meal measured in food metres rather than miles!
