We stayed for a short weekend break with family. The rooms were OK, perhaps slightly on the small side and in need of a little updating, but the communal areas of the hotel are lovely, the garden beautiful, the Michelin starred restaurant outstanding and the service impeccable - relaxed, friendly and "do anything to please" throughout our stay. The little "journey pack" of a bottle of water and an apple was a nice touch as we left. Wonderful location in the middle of Beaulieu, just minutes away from the Motor Museum, Bucklers Hard and Exbury Gardens. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: You may want to be on the garden side away from the road but not really an issue as good double glaz...

Me and my wife went here for my birthday and the food was divine. We went for the set lunch which was reasonably priced and everything from starter to desert was tasty, especially the bread and butter

We came here for our wedding anniversary for a minimum two night stay. A lovely spot, and a great location for discovering the area (we went to the Motor Museum, Buckler's Hard and into Dorset). Donkeys wandering the streets were a lovely surprise!
The staff were friendly and welcoming, but on check out there was a problem with the bill and I was told the hotel owed me over £200! Sadly that wasn't the case, I think the remote booking service was the problem but it took a lot of faffing about to sort out.
We both felt the hotel was just a bit tired, in the way that English hotels sometimes are. There were dodgy patches on the ceilings, some of the furniture was not shabby chic, just shabby. Our four poster room was terribly twee. But the bathroom was good and everything worked.
Our meal in the Terrace Restaurant was reasonable but the room lacked atmosphere. The tables were very close together and the service was mixed - the young waiting staff didn't seem to have much confidence.
The same goes for breakfast. We asked for some more orange juice, twice. One waitress came back with a jug of juice, then another one came along and said we couldn't have it as it wasn't freshly squeezed, but did we want grapefruit instead? No clean glasses were produced, the grapefruit was just poured over the dregs of orange juice. Not a terrible thing, but just not what we'd expected.
We went to the Pig at Brockenhurst the following night, which had a great atmosphere, really good service and a very imaginative menu.

My husband and I stayed at the Montagu Arms in September to celebrate our 30 Wedding anniversary. We had a very enjoyable and memorable stay From our welcome to the hotel through dinner in the Terrace Restaurant and our departure the next day, our visit went smoothly and all the staff were friendly and professional. In particular, the young lady receptionist helped to make our visit special. I would definitely recommend the hotel for a special occasion.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the gardens as the ones facing the road did suffer from a little traff...

the Montagu Arms is inside the New Forest, therefore surrounded by animals walking on the road, which gives a pleasant feel to the place. Parking was difficult as the hotel's car parks were full. Some of us parked on the high street to later move their cars when parking pace was freed up.
The welcome was friendly with a quick check-in and help offered with luggage (welcome as no lift available).
The hotel is small so we had booked a number of rooms in advance which we couldn't cancel for free a week before the date anymore.
The room was very atmospheric, I heard my colleagues had poster beds. I didn't, but there was complementary water, information about activities in the New Forest. There was enough space and plugs and you could open the window. There were slippers and a bathrobe available.
The meeting room was great, lunch served was delicious. Staff was friendly, although seemed stressed between two meetings so we asked for our lunch to be cleared in a specific moment of time, they were then busy so we started our meeting. They came to clear it in our next break. Also we had to remind them of tea and coffee in the breaks a few times, but this was brought in with a smile. Staff seemed slightly uncoordinated and operating under our request rather than instructions from their manager.
Pierre came to ask details for the dinner and we agreed we'd free the room in time to give the staff plenty of time to prepare the room for dinner.
A walk around the premises was nice, although there was no footpath.
Dinner was exquisite. Coffee and tea after dinner was offered to be served either in the same room or in the conservatory and we decided to have it outside. It all looked lovely with chocolates and all. Staff kept being friendly, bringing over cushions etc.
Sleep quality was good, no noise and a comfortable bed.
Breakfast was exquisite again with a la carte as well as a buffet. Staff was friendly though seemed to slightly struggle with the language. A separate table was prepared for our group which the manager had organised for us in advance and warned us about (seemingly there were no other guests for breakfast).
Checkout was quick and easy.
All in all a luxurious stay which was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us.

For those looking for a break away from the normal stresses of life they should consider a stay here. The setting is perfect being on the Beaulieu Estate in the New Forest. Many rooms enjoy views over the village, the lake or the estuary down to Buckler's Hard. The food was of a high standard but our lasting memory was of the friendly and helpful staff, who seemed to take a great pleasure in catering for your needs. When not in the hotel trips to the nearby coast or through the New Forest are well worthwhile, as is a Trip to Lymington with its cobbled streets down to the harbour. A fairly long but easy return walk from the hotel garden down the riverside to Bucklers Hard was enjoyable and gave one the necessary appetite to tackle an excellent dinner in the well appointed dining room. A splendidly varied wine list just added to the pleasure,
We are planning our next visit already.

Everything, from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, was excellent, especially e service. Our room was comfortable and fully equipped. Whilst amenities were below some more modern highly rated hotels it has to be borne in mind t he age of the property which limits some aspects, but more than compensates in the character department. The terrace is wonderful and the gardens beautiful. Staff were very helpful, though at times at bit stretched (and us slow). Monty's bar is also excellent with a great choice of traditional English beers as well as a wider international selection, but the key is that you really feel you're in a traditional village pub.

Room Tip: Room 28 is excellent as it has a good view over e high street and across towards the lanes. Whilst a...
