“Another excellent dining experience”
Reviewed 5 February 2012

Had yet another first class meal, I went with my wife and two friends, we live locally and use this place a few times a year. An excellent restaurant, concentrating on good quality locally sourced produce, all very fresh and extremely well prepared.
It was snowing very heavily and the place wasnt very busy as a result, however the charm and good grace of the hosts meant that a lively and entertaining evening resulted.
The menu is varied and caters for all tastes, and since its all freshly made, they dont mind making variations on the menu for you, nothing seems to be too much trouble. I cannot praise this place enough!

Have been to the Granary on numerous occasions.
The welcome is always very friendly and the food is always fantastic.
Love it so much I had my wedding here!!!, they did not disappoint and based on comments received from family and friends who attended the wedding reception they agree.
Would recommend The Granary time and time again.

“Nice farmhouse country restaurant”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

My partner had been to The Granary on numerous occasions but it was my first visit. This was her parents anniversary dinner for 12 people.
It is true that the bar area is a little dated and the drink choice is a little limited but there was a very hearty welcome from the owner, Paul, who also manned the bar.
The standard of food and the service from the kitchen was very good. There were some original and very tasty sounding items on the menu but the staff happily produced plain chicken and chips for the kids when needed.
I would have no worries going to The Granary again.
Don't imagine that you're going to get Gordon Ramsey here. You're not. What you WILL get is country people who are good with food. No pretences of grandeur. No snobbery or yes sir, no sir falseness. Just good honest country people earning a crust by providing good honest food.
Well done The Granary.

“Simple things done well”
Reviewed 28 September 2011

After a long search for food and shelter we were recommended to The Granary. We were welcomed by Paul and Margaret, shown to an excellent, though small, twin bedded and comfortable room with a decent shower, good TV, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The restaurant menu was good, Paul's welcome was as if we were long lost friends, and the bar area was comfortable. The food was plentiful and well cooked. Whitebait were plump and juicy, the duck with apple sauce was good, but didn't need the rather crunchy stuffing. Memo to the chef: More apple, and dump the stuffing.

This is decent cooking for the family table. As such it's top class and great value. This isn't a hotbed of gastronomy, this is just good food done well and with good portion sizes.

Will we stay there again? Yes. Will we eat there again? Yes.

“A perfect lunchtime ............”
Reviewed 6 July 2011

After an evening visit several years ago we booked Sunday lunch for four. From the moment we arrived we were treated as VIPs by the proprieters in a most friendly way. After a quick drink - our choice - we were shown to our table and our choice of starters served - two salmon mousse, a feta salad and a pate - all were good and tasty, well presented and sensible in quantity. The decor is neat and tidy and obviously reflects the owners taste but is non-intrusive to diners.
Main courses were served - all excellent roast meats, Yorkshire puddings plus good quantities of freshly cooked vegetables and a jug of excellent gravy - a nice touch ! At all times the staff checked on our food, drinks and enjoyment level but there were no problems in any respect.
Sweets were selected from the menu and coffee offered which we took outside to watch the housemartins, horses and general farm activities as that is what the Granary is - a restaurant based on a farm which we loved.
At £13 per head for 3 quality courses plus coffee this is very good value - and the wine list has a sensible range at reasonable prices.
