went to the boot pub in chipperfield its local and advertised that it had a new chef - more like an army cook!
i have never before been served tinned marrow-fat peas in a restaurant all the food was overcooked and the service was pretty dismal

We are very disappointed that Alan O didnt enjoy his meal with us. I can assure him that we DONT serve marrow fat peas and when asked if his meal was ok it would have been nice if he had said that he didnt like the peas or any of the other food.
We do our best to serve our homecooked food fresh and hot and would hope that Alan would give us another try.

“Lovely lovely place”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

Went to The Boot in Chipperfield last night on Valentines Day for a romantic meal and wasn't disappointed.

We were looking for somewhere different and when driving past the unique character of the old building caught out eye.

In entering the pub itself looked very romantic but not tacky in anyway like so many other places I have been to, the atmosphere was just right.

Despite it being relatively busy when we arrived and we were seated straight away and offered drinks which promptly arrived.

They were offering 3 courses valentines specials for £17.95 and for good quality home cooked food you won't find a better bargain. we both had the rib-eye steak that come with home made daupinoise potatoes and it was spot on. The steak we were told was from a local butcher and I could taste the quality. The steak was cooked just to our liking and is fantastic value for the price.

The pub has a real log fire and all the staff were friendly and attentive, despite it being busy.

All in all a lovely surprise especially after seeing the review above. I can only assume the place has a new chef/staff since his visit because we had a thoughly good time.

Will Definately be back.

“There have to be better places than this locally”
Reviewed 7 August 2011

You know sometimes you go to a place and you think it looks a bit rough? And you think, OK, I'll give it a go, maybe the food is really nice and there's a really warm welcome. Well, perhaps we should have paid heed to the sign outside the door (it said something like the 'The food is awful, the staff are rude but if you get drunk you won't notice'). Well there was one good thing - you get large portions (of over-cooked food). Other than that it was just quite simply, all rather dismal (rather like their website that is still advertsing Xmas 2010 on its home page). There was lacklustre 'hits of the 80s' playing at a slightly too loud volume. I was served a cloudy and disgusting tasting glass of San Miguel which had something floating in it and had clearly gone off. But, worse of all the waittress didn't even thank us when we paid the bill and it was claerly obvious that we had tipped her, then to cap it all, she didn't say good bye when we walked past her to leave.
There have got to be a lot better places to go in the area.
