“Lovely setting”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

Pleasant stay, rooms very nice, beds fantastic. Waitress service for our evening meal excellent. Housekeeping staff excellent. Only complaint is the rude attitude and most unhelpful female receptionist, who also served breakfast and was the reason why we went elsewhere for breakfast the following morning.

We stayed here as we went to a wedding nearby so it was only a quick visit. We were running late so couldn't check in until late that night so they very helpfully left the key out for us. This was all done as they said and we found everything easy to find.

The room smelt funny and was very dingy and the toilet bin hadn't been cleaned out so I was greated with an old sanitary towel when I went to use it - not nice! We paid £79 (not inc breakfast) for the night for the 2 of us. Overall it's a bit tired and could do with a bit of a refurb. I wouldn't stay here again but if you're desperate for somewhere to stay it would be fine. I would just say it's probably somewhere you would expect to pay around £50 for, it's not worth anything more.

Recently enjoyed a two night stay at the Two Brewers hotel. I booked this hotel due to it's location near to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour and was advised to not to stay in the centre of Watford.

This hotel certainly does have a little charm and character to it. Located across from Chipperfield Common, it makes you feel like you're in a country pub miles from anywhere, although it's only a 10 minute drive off the M25.

The pub part is great! The drinks were cold and fizzy, although the Peroni pump was a little expensive at £4.79 a pint, Stella was a good and more reasonable alternative. Food wasn't bad either especially with their 3 Courses for £12.95 offer.

The service was great, very friendly and helpful.

What lets the place down is ageing decor and tired facilities. Our room was large enough for our purposes but the lighting was dim at best, TV - small and quiet, bathroom - clean but the shower lacked power and there was no extractor so the room steamed up quiet easily.

Having said that I'd happily stay here again if I needed to.

Stayed for one night only (Saturday 25th May) whilst working at the Herts County Show. Check in was easy, room was excellent-roomy & well laid out. Bar was friendly (sat in a window overlooking the green on a sunny evening, watching cricket) and the food and real ale (Sharpes' Doombar) were superb! Only minor gripe was that the shower temperature was a bit erratic.

As a regular visit to this area of London I decided to stay at the Two Barrels as a change from the usual places around Kings Langley. The location in Chipperfield is great right in the heart of this very traditional english village.
The place looks very nice and the website and the best available room rate of £99 room only suggested it would be good.
However a couple of hours into the first night I was longing to return to my usual hotels.
There are no major issues that should stop any one booking this hotel I just found it uninspiring and overpriced. I can stay at the Shendish and Holiday Inn cheaper with breakfast included.
Reception at check in and out were friendly enough and got me sorted out
The bar and restaurant part of the place is definately the best part, its a nice place to sit and eat and drink.
Walking through to the hotel part of the place it feels quite tired and very bland. The rooms have been wallpapered in part and the beds dressed to try and lift the tired rooms feel which understandably are used to show the rooms in the hotel pictures. I thought I was going to like the room but I didnt. It all felt very travel lodge to be honest. There is a small TV with freeview channels, tea making (no water or biscuits), ironing board. Plastic cups are provided which adds to the travel lodge feel.
The bathroom was very small but did have a bath and shower (as one).

There was some noise from outside and the other rooms.
The most annoying thing were the cleaners who arrived around 8am and made a lot of noise which I found completely inappropreate and uncaring of the guests. They then entered my room dispite the DND sign being out.

There is cloud wifi which is avaialble for free if you sign uo and it does work quite well.

Overall Its not a bad hotel but it is not good value and I would not rush back

+:
A very nice place to stay with a family. We were 2 adults and 3 kids and the family room space is enough. We stayed here for 4 days.
Room price is very good for the quality of the hotel
Surroundings are very nice and quiet. A big park is also available in front of the hotel, so kids can play while we drink a beer at the pub
Food served in the pub is very good and price is not to expensive
-:
Breakfast buffet is very light and doesn't worth the 5.75 pounds asked for. We needed to ask for croissants, muffins.

Overall, this remains a very good place to stay in....and not to far from London, Harry Potter studio....

My husband and I chose to stay here for a few reasons: proximity to the Harry Potter Tour, the price, and the name. We found our stay to be wonderful and our meal was delicious. It didn't have the beer selection as we had assumed by the name though. I would have liked the staff to be more accessible during dinner and check-out. We left around 6am and there was no one to check us out or assist with calling a cab to the train station. That aside, we loved our stay. Comfortable, quaint, cute, and quiet. We'd go back for sure!
Tip: 15pounds from Harry Potter to hotel (as of April 2013)
