Now called "The Two Brewers" not only the name has changed civil, but blunt service. The wonderful menu is NO more it is a member of the Chef & Brewer chain and has a typical modern pub menu. We waited over an hour for main course and had to chase up starter and ask for drinks to be refreshed even though waitress service. The food when arrived was expectable but not special in any way.

The most disappointing part of the visit was that the pub had that beautiful English pub feel but they have tried to go shabby chic and like many greedy landlords have ripped the heart out of another English pub. It will do well as it has a wealthy clientele even if new management showed they were far from sophisticated.

We stayed at the 2 brewers in June 2009. The room was fine, - clean and comfortable. But the staff were probably the most unhelpful that i have ever had the misfortune to come across. We returned to the hotel following a fantastic wedding reception a few miles away. There were about 30 people from the wedding party staying at the hotel. We returned at midnight and were told in no uncertain times that they would not keep the bar open for us even though we were hotel guests. Subsequently i found out that this had happened the previous evening, they closed the bar at 11 - even though some of the hotel guests wanted to carry on sitting in the bar. They were told that if they wanted to carry on drinking there was a British Legion club just down the road.
To upsum - staff were unhelpful and rude.

waited over 30 minutes for 2 sandwiches and a baguette . Both sandwiches made with with dryed out bread 8 prawns in the filling . Not told of the length of time it took to produce the order on a Monday at 2pm. Had to leave in a rush to get to the airport but sent an email to the hotel still awaiting a response !. Very disappointing used to have great food and great service. Shall not be in a rush to return.

I live in the same village as the Two Brewers so it is the perfect place for my bride-to-be's family to stay (and her for the night before out wedding).

Weeks ago we were shown rooms etc. by very pleasant & helpful staff that were happy to take our booking. No mention was made of any prospective closure of the hotel for renovations.

This morning, The Two Brewers 'phoned to cancel our booking.

Very apologetic junior staff, but useless in suggesting other hotels at such a late date because all suitable alternatives are fully booked. The manager ‘cannot be contacted.’ What a surprise.

This demonstrates highly unprofessional practice; clearly a hotel should organise its closures in advance AND THEN stop taking bookings for those dates, not vice versa!

Had this hotel even told us that there might be a chance of closure, we could have made contingent reservations at a suitable alternative. They did not do so; the result being a weeping fiancée and immense stress for me as I try to rescue this situation at short notice.

Chipperfield is a lovely village, do visit it, but don't trust The Two Brewers.

Although the main menu is standard throughout all Chef and Brewers of this type, the chef's specials are unsurpassed. The food is always excellent, well presented and great tasting. I have always had a very warm welcome, with chatty, friendly barstaff. The waitresses and waiters have been courteous, attentive and very helpful with any queries regarding the food. When it is time to pay we are shown a copy of the bill before we pay off the tab. I come away from the Hotel with a well fed, well rested feeling and a strong desire to return very soon.
