“Just brilliant for our Wedding!”
Reviewed 16 June 2014 via mobile

Having previously visited for pub lunch a few times before and being very impressed, we had our wedding reception here last sat. The staff were nothing but exceptional, especially Nicola who I can't thank enough, made you feel like one of the family and all the food was delishious. We had an amazing day and will be recommending The Cart and Horse's to everyone we know.

“Birthday Meal”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Excellent meal and the service was very good as well.
The Turkish Delight ice cream was unbelievable as well.
The only issue I would have is that it is a bit difficult to find therefore the use of a satnav would be essential
I would recommend it to anyone.

“A surprise in the country.”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

This experiance begins when you try and find it,being located at the crossroads along a leafy lane between Chandlers Cross ,Sarratt and Chipperfield in Hertfordshire. Book ahead if you want to sit inside, but on a nice day there is lots of seating in the large garden. The menu gives a very good choice with lots of produce sourced locally and cooked and presented to a high standard for the price. They have lunch time theme days eg. Monday , Roast Chicken, Tuesday, Steak, down to Friday obviously Fish (Large) &Chips all for £4.95 . I must also comment on the very hard working Bar staff who are not only efficient but find time to be very friendly. All in all a great time had by one and all.

“lovely country pub with the best roast dinners”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Having been to the Cart & Horses many times over recent years my family, we decided to celebrate my mothers 70th Birthday there last Sunday, it was difficult to park as the car park was quite full, the garden is quite big with a play area which is great for families with children.
I was glad that we had booked and reserved a table as they were very busy, the service was slower than normal but did not have to wait long for our roast dinners, unfortunately they had run out of there amazing roast lamb so opted for the pork with all the trimmings which is just as good, the others had the roast beef and chicken, my mother had the child's chicken which was almost as big as the adults portion, the toffee apple crumble and custard for desert was excellent.
Very good value for money with a lovely atmosphere, more important child friendly.

“WORST Sunday Roast of my LIFE”
Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

My daughter booked us a table for 6.30pm on the Bank Holiday Sunday... We should of known as we entered from the greeting (or lack of!) that we received what was to come! No more than a grunt from the barman & a blasé attitude regarding our booking and the table allocated for us. When presented with the menu we all chose our roast, a shoulder of lamb, a half shoulder and a half chicken.
Out first choice, they had none, nor did they have beef. Only pork or chicken was available - so 2 1/2 chickens and a roast pork we begrudgingly chose. I would expected when receiving the menu to be told what food they had run out of firstly!

Once the food arrived which was slap dash handed to us - Aunt Bessie's roast potatoes, microwave swede mash, Aunt Bessie's yorkshire pudding, one new potato which I no doubt would of been green by tomorrow! A solid ball of Paxo stuffing, Bisto gravy that hadn't even been mixed properly. As for the chicken - the saggy, elastic skin (which even a plastic surgeon would of had trouble with) was tasteless, greasy and the meat was so dry it needed a saline drip! The pork was hot underneath and stone cold on the top, yes, you've guessed it that was also so dry it was inedible. It had clearly been cooked within an inch of it's life to get the crackling on top, which was the only pleasing thing.

We had no waitress check to see if anything was okay with our meal, no top up of drinks... We were then asked if we wanted the dessert menu & a swift collection of the plates and we were left to it - clearly from the sight of our plates we were displeased customers.

Overall, from hearing through word of mouth about this pub doing nice food; they clearly have no standards of nice food, tastebuds and they also must be blind.

Never returning & I sincerely hope people take a note of my honest review and think twice. Considering there are some great truly British pubs less than a mile away - they need to up their game!
