This is a decent, friendly and comfortable pub B&B that's a bit rough around the edges in terms of service, premises and accommodation. There's absolutely nothing wrong in that of course. However for the room rate, you'd expect a bit more. Unfortunately this is fairly typical for the Harpenden / St Albans area, which has a dearth of quality, budget hotel accommodation.

The convenience of this pub is pretty good and although it's located on a busy road the noise was minimal.

The pub itself has character and the food and drink are above average in terms of volume, quality and price.

The room I stayed in however was uncomfortable, the carpet looked dirty (although I thinks it was the number of stains), the room was dark and the bed very uncomfortable. The bathroom was clean but in need of some TLC. The problem is that once you find a couple of issues, you start to nit-pick which I could easily do; the list though would be tremendous. It was clear that some renovation had been completed in the bathroom, but I would suggest they are asked to come back and complete the job or do it properly in the first place.

To conclude, it's a roof over you head worth no more than £40 p/night (I dread to think how much the company paid for this)

This was my 2nd stay at the Silver Cup. Not only is the location very well placed. The staff are very helpful and breakfast is very nice.

Conveniently located near the town centre this is a dependable and good value hotel with comfortable and well equipped rooms above the pub and free wifi available throughout. They have a good selection of beers and wines and the breakfast is served in ample portions. The sausages are especially tasty! The dinner menu isn't half bad either and the customer service is professional, attentive, reliable and friendly.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room which doesn't overlook the main road.

I’ve stayed at this pub with rooms many times on business, and although there have, from time to time, been a few relatively minor issues, overall it’s been very good indeed. And don’t be put off by the fact that this isn’t a hotel, as the service, quality of food, rooms, value for money, plus overall experience, are better than most of the local hotels anyway. But do book early, as it is popular on weekdays. Breakfasts are excellent and the real ale is well kept, too,

Room Tip: All the rooms are fine - I think I've slept in them all.
