“Service great. Ruined by landlord...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2014 via mobile

We had our extended family over from Italy for a special meal. Nothing available on menu that we wanted. We booked the table a week prior to dining. Staff were very accommodating and we were having a make do meal and the evening was drawing to a close. The pub was empty and our children were happy playing causing no upset or trouble to any other visitors. (There were no other people in the pub). The landlord then stood up and berated the children for making too much noise and disturbing his meal with his wife and kid in the corner. We were told off like naughty school kids and embarrassed everyone concerned, adults and children alike. When challenged the landlord made out like he had all of our best interests at heart when really he wanted peace and quiet, (9pm at night). Our bill came to just over £200 but this did not seem to matter. Personally I thought that if he wanted the pub to himself he should have closed. Kids should be made to feel welcome, especially as there is a kids menu on offer. This totally ruined our experience and we will not be visiting again. We were eating in this restaurant 1-2 times per month and the bill was never less than £80 when we were visiting as a family. He should be thinking of this when making diners feel unwelcome. We would strongly advise anyone with a family wanting to eat here to think again. He has lost our business now and is a very rude man, unprofessional, greedy. He let himself down and his staff. Go to the red lion on Leighton buzzard rd instead.

“price rise!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2014

We normally pay a visit to this restaurant about 4 or 5 times a year and the food is very good.
We had a table for 4 recently and noticed the new menu, looking forward to see what had been changed and hoping not to much!
All I can say is bring the old menu back and lower the prices by 20%.
If they want return business they are pricing themselves above what we would expect to pay for very good pub restaurant.
Remember the food is very good quality and have no quibble with that, its just that we would like to carry on visiting.

“Nice setting, weather permitting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014

This is a nice pub to visit in the summer and both owner and staff are welcoming. The food is ok and the choice is varied. Sadly the outside area next to the canal is very nice but there are numerous trees opposite and the sun gets blocked and can make it cold. It also gets busy and seating is limited outside at peak times or when the sun is out. The interior of the pub is dark and although there are some lovely old features it feels oppressive.
Very handy for dog/canal walkers or cyclists and definitely worth a try.

“Nice spot, whatever the weather”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

I admit it's pretty exceptional to be able to soak up the sun in November whilst enjoying lunch on the edge of the Grand Union Canal watching the long boats slowly making their way through the Hertfordshire countryside. I guess 2013 has been pretty exceptional weatherwise and this was a real bonus.

The Three Horseshoes is a busy pub restaurant at any time of the year. When the vagaries of winter arrive, the guests move indoors around a cosy fire and enjoy the best of food. A little expensive compared with some but there are smaller portions of some dishes that you can order and which will more than satisfy most palates. This time, my friend and I enjoyed a nice plate of traditional fish and chips, all fresh and tasty with a glass of wine as a pleasant accompaniment.

A beautiful setting, nice weather and first rate food ... you can't really ask for anything more.
