“A perfectly good 3 star hotel”
Reviewed 14 September 2009

Visited the hotel as part of a wedding party. We were checked in efficiently and our family room was large with plenty of room for 2 extra beds for our children (single sofa bed and camp bed). The room was clean and cool and the bedlinen was of a good standard - white and cosy. The bathroom was large, and although a bit tired looking, very acceptable (remember to make sure the pump is on for the shower otherwise it dribbles out). Our room was quiet, even though we went to bed in the middle of the wedding evening reception, and we weren't disturbed by other guests going to bed. The wedding went very smoothly, which had a lot to do with the staff of the hotel. Drinks were not over priced and the food was of a good standard. Breakfast was really good and the staff had tried to make sure all the wedding party could sit together. We had a lovely stay and the children really enjoyed it too. The Bobsleigh is a perfectly good 3 star hotel - nothing fancy but it is what it is.

i was shocked at the filth in the bathroom the shower area was black with gunge and filth the thick dust all around skirting boards, and windows, was a total nightmare i was unable to leave hotel as i was there for a function with a lot of family members if i could have checked straight out i would have . aswel as the filth in my room the downstairs ladies toilet really needed to be updated, the toilet did not flush well and was very old fashioned, due to the fact there charges are so high it was a total shock to see what you got for your money

Stayed here on a Saturday night after attending a friends party in Sarrat. Receptionist gave us a warm welcome. Room was clean and reasonably sized, with a view of the garden. Breakfast was excellent - though service at bringing us tea could have been quicker. Would suggest they take the person off the breakfast serving table and let guests help themselves. This would mean tea and toast would be quicker arriving. Staff were all friendly and smiled! All in all a very pleasant stay.

Arrived at the Bobsleigh and was promptly seen to and given my room. Once in the room I was reasonably pleased as it was a large room with a large jacuzzi/spa bath which I was looking forward to using after a 4 hour drive.

Although the room was a bit dated it looked in reasonably good shape and clean. Unfortunately I wasn't able to have the time to enjoy the room or the bath as after 10 mins or so I noticed a constant noise of what sounded like a water heater/pipes or a/c unit above the ceiling. I asked reception if this was likely to be making a racket all night and they said that they didn't have a clue what it was so couldn't say.

I was offered a different room, so expecting the same type of room, I accepted. Bit of a mistake (note to self.....bring ear plugs next time in case room is nice but noisy!!!), as the next room was even more dated and in addition, was rather tatty!!!

The bathroom, although spacious had only a small bath, the water pressure was very very low, so the shower after the drive (instead of a jacuzzi bath) didn't really refresh me as it was like standing out in warm rain. I also noticed what looked like small pieces of glass on the bathroom floor.

The room was huge, but as mentioned a bit tatty. There were patio doors leading out onto a roof that had air vents (not really a patio area), 2 single beds pushed together and the TV reception was bad. As in previous reviews, Sky was advertised but only 1 Sky channel available (no Sky 1 as stated on booklet and curiously the Sky welcome channel was on 2 channels with perfect reception!!), and TV was on it's last legs as the already bad reception was made worse but a dodgy screen.

The evening meal was of good quality though. Pot roasted free range chicken consisted of breast, and 2 thighs (all cooked very well), potatoes and curly kale and bacon washed down with a bottle of Tiger beer. Breakfast was standard fare.

Overall, I wouldn't choose to stay there as I didn't feel it was value for what it cost (booked through my employers but think it was about £130-£140 a night), but certainly expexted more.

Having stayed at many MacDonald Hotels over the years, I was disappointed with the Bobsleigh. We were finishing a golfing trip of the UK and wanted a hotel near to Heathrow, but always try to avoid the Holiday Inn style concrete blocks and thought the Bobsleigh would offer some traditional hospitality.

Then we get there and the rooms are not in the old building but in a modern block. They are small rooms with poor showers in even smaller bathrooms. Maintainance is poor - the grout in our shower was black in places. The hotel seemed understaffed - we waited 15 minutes for someone to appear at reception. The dinner was ok but overpriced and small portions. The one saving grace was that breakfast was excellent and served in the comfortable cosy conservatory.

Will try to find somewhere else next time we are flying out.

I have just spent two lots of 3 days at the Bobsleigh hotel whilst on a Business course in nearby Hemel Hempstead.I feel so sorry for the lovely friendly & helpful staff who are so overworked trying to man the bar & restaurant at the same time resulting in waits of almost an hour between ordering & food being served.
The fire alarm went off ( all false alarms) 6 times in the first 3 days that I was staying there, once at 5 am in the morning, not what is needed for a fresh brain to tackle a days intensive learning.
The food once you get it is good but very overp[riced as the postions are extremely small & the drinks prices are extortionate, between £6.00 & £9.50 for a glass of wine !!
The rooms have tea/coffee making facilites but these were not replenished daily nor were the toilet rolls & other bathroom necessities, I had to visit reception at 10pm one evening to ask for a toilet roll.
I would certainly not choose the Bobsleigh hotel myself, it was chosen for me by my company.
