We enjoyed the stay here. We were situated on the car park side and had a decent nights sleep. The pillows are marked 'soft' and 'hard' and to be honest, they were both hard which did give me a bit of a crick in the neck but the bed was comfortable.

My two kids shared the sofa bed. They are age 8 and 6 and to be honest if you have older kids you would struggle with this if all 'family' rooms were the same.

The shower was lovely and hot and quite powerful. Breakfast consits of scrambled egg, sausages and beans. Although no bacon, you could eat as much as you wanted along with fruit, yoghurts, crossaints, fresh fruit, juices, coffe and tea. Also toast on the revolving toaster. Pretty good start to the day.

In the bar it was comfortable with pleasant seating and a pool table. Bar prices are a little high with £3.60 for a pint of Becks but we come to expect this from most hotels. The bar food menu is far to high, although we didn't use it, £10.99 for lasagne is more than I would pay for a bar meal. The bar staff were friendly and helpful if you asked questions or needed directions. Within the bar area itself are vending machines dishing out chocolates, water and juices if needed.

We did eat at an itialian called Calzone just over the bridge on Dickinson Quay and this was lovely. £36.00 for a family of 4 with a few drinks on top we thought was a great price. There is also an indian across the bridge and a nice pub, albeit busy called the Paper Mill. This is also quite expensive and I am told by some friends who ate in there it took quite a while for the food to be delivered.

The car park is via an intercom entrance and the exit barrier is closed at night and open in the day.

We enjoyed the stay here and I would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road.

Dear BristolCityRed,

Thank you so much for your review of our hotel. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us! Whilst I am pleased with your compliments on our breakfast and bar services, I truly value the comment about the sofa bed as this gives us the opportunity of improving what we already have. Again we apprecrite your time and look forward to hosting you again soon!

Hotel is average, rooms are large but furnitures don't look very qualitative.
Bed was okay, large TV
The cost of wifi connection is prohibitive and it is difficult to accept to pay 16£ for a day of connection when most of the hotels offer it free of charge.
Breakfast was just okay, but the hotel in general looks a bit old fashioned.
Service was good

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your recent experience at the Holiday Inn Express Hemel Hempstead. It was nice to hear that you received good service during your stay. The hotel will be undergoing a programme to refresh the guest bedrooms and public areas in the next few weeks which will give the hotel a refreshed look and feel. I am sorry to hear you felt disappointed with the WiFi charges in the bedrooms, we do offer our guests free WiFi in the public areas. Thank you once again for your feedback and we do hope to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Kind regards,

As is typical these days with HI Express', they are better furnished and maintained than the majority of Holiday Inn's in the UK and this was as expected.
The staff were first class always helpful, the room was in a ggod condition.
A couple of minor niggles, the bed had seen its best days as it was beginning to get lumpy and the carpark soon gets full (there is an overflow in what look to he the resedential section). If you are on the road side I guess it would be a bit noisy if you had the window open, but at least the rooms have a/c.

Room Tip: Try to aviod the main road side

A very pleasant stay in a very clean and modern hotel, rooms and all ares of hotel are spotless and breakfast was very good and included in the price, well worth the money. There is also an excellent indian restaurant called the Marina Spice Lounge within walking distance situated on the Grand Union Canal which is worth a visit. Overall excellent value and lovely friendly helpful reception staff.

Room Tip: room 301 was overlooking the car park with canal views

Opted to stay here after being taken ill during a long drive south. Free parking, hurrah! Reception staff were very friendly and ensured that I had a quiet room away from the Christmas party that was currently taking place. My room was spotlessly clean and very warm. I felt much better the next day and was able to continue my journey :)
