“Fantastic wedding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

We had our wedding reception at the Manor of Groves hotel. The staff were incredibly accommodating for our of our weird and wonderful requests, and the day ran without a hitch. The event planning team were fantastic - I cannot praise them enough, and the staff on the day were equally helpful.

The food was lovely - many of our guests commented on how great it was, and the buffet breakfast the morning after was vast - and delicious!

Our room was huge and of a high standard, and guests also enjoyed their stay. Some of them got to use the hotel's facilitiles and said they were good (we were a bit gutted that we didn't have time for a swim!)

Overall, a perfect wedding venue, and we would definitely go back to stay another time.

My wife and I stayed at the Manor of Groves for two nights in August and we were delighted with the experience. The building used to be a Manor House some centuries ago but for the last few years it has been a hotel complex surrounded by rolling countryside and an international-standard golf course. (Yes, surrounded by a golf course!) There are basically three buildings, the original one which is the hotel proper with beautiful function suites, a very large health club with an enormous swimming pool, and the golf club. Everything looks sparkling and new.

We were greeted on arrival and allocated our room within about three minutes. The standard twin room we had was spotless and very comfortable with free wifi, both cable and wireless, comfortable beds, lots of drawer and wardrobe space, excellent furniture and a large beautiful bathroom. We opted for half board and both the breakfast and dinner were more than adequate and at dinner time the portions served were generous, extremely well cooked and served by a charming young and smiling staff.

In fact the staff throughout were probably the most efficient and pleasant of any we have seen, and we’ve seen a lot!

Although this is a prime location for weddings and celebration parties, and at the time there were several taking place, the management take care to see that individual guests are not inconvenienced by whatever functions are going on and, especially at breakfast time, function guests who have stayed overnight are accommodated in a different part of the hotel from individual clients. A nice – and welcome – touch.

This is a place we can thoroughly recommend and we shall return.

Lovely approach to the hotel up a long driveway, and a large spacious reception area. Friendly welcome and quick check in. Room was nicely appointed, average hotel size. Beds were comfy, but pillows (for me) were a bit high. Wifi was free and available in bedrooms. The bathroom was quite spacious - good shower with a nice, but limited selection of toiletries.
We opted for the evening meal on one of the nights, and the food was excellent - good size portions, very tasty and well presented. Breakfast was also of good quality - continental and full english - help yourself service.
Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and service was prompt and courteous.
Would recommend.

I'm wirting this on behalf of my brother and his new wife, who stayed here on the wedding night. The room was superb (four poster bed), the food was superb, but overall the staff were fantastic. They couldn't do enough for them on this special night. So much so that they are going to return for their 1st wedding anniversary next year.
Highly recommend this hotel....truely special!

Room Tip: Four poster bed overlooking the gardens! Superb!

On arrival we walked into the very impressive reception where we were greeted warmly and booked in immediately with no fuss by a very nice receptionist who informed us of all the facilities avialable on site, and advised us of a few things to do locally as we like walking. We were directed to our room in the old part of the hotel 'room 13' not being supersticious we didnt think anything of it, the room was superb large airy well presented room with a lovely en-suite bathroom, everything was very clean and tidy and a lovely view from both windows, the bed was comfortable and we both slept very well no outside noise or disturbances that you sometimes get at a hotel. We had evening meals and breakfasts during our stay and were not dissapointed, the bar menu and the restaurant menu had a good variety and we were happy with the portions and the all you can eat breakfast set us up for the day. We used the spa facilities every evening after a long days walking and in the morning before going out, good facilities never over crowded the only negative was that the staff at the spa were not as warm and friendly as the rest of the hotel. Really enjoyed our stay and will definately return, we do these breaks quite regularly in different parts of the uk and this was one of the more pleasing and relaxing breaks we have had, well done to all the staff very warm and friendly.

Room Tip: We found the old part of the hotel much nicer and our corner room (room 13) was large and airy and w...

32 members attended our 1 night d b&b, 2 round of golf sun/Mon stay. Very impressed on arrival.
This hotel is well managed with very friendly, well trained staff.
The dinner was first class with very efficient young staff. A great british breakfast for Monday morning.
Rooms of good size clean & smart.
The course was in excellent condition considering the dreadful weather of early July.
Buy a course planner as the ditches and hedges across the course make for lay ups and the remaining distance can be long!

Room Tip: Don't think this matters. Outside are lovely grounds, well kept and quiet.

Hi Richard, thank you for your great review. So glad you enjoyed your stay at Manor of Groves. I am very proud of the golf course. My Head Greenkeeper and his team work very hard in maintaining it to the highest standard. We have put in a couple of new ditches to keep the shot management interesting.
Im glad you commented on the team, we do spend a lot of time on training and just yesterday we spent 3 hours with 24 younger members of the team, refreshing and reiterating our service standard to make a 3 star hotel, give a 4 star service.
We look forward to welcoming you back for another stay.

On arrival this place is impressive.. I found the check in person to be very rude and short, not the best welcome..
The room was okay, i agree with over reviews that they are tired and dated. The towels were very poor quality for this standard of hotel. The room was so hot i could hardly sleep, opened the window but the noise out side kept me awake and then to top it all off, the room i have had an interconnecting door, which the person next door tried to open, several times!!

I had room service, which was really nice, it came with in 30 mins and was still hot on arrival..

I also used the pool, which was great, not busy at all... But the changing rooms were dirty and the walk to the pool was horrid, and the smell...............

I had breakfast, and the coffee was yummy! I dont normally drink a whole cup of coffee but this coffee made me want more...
The food was okayish.... neither here nor there...

Thank you for your response. We have a programme of continaully improveing and updating our rooms particulary in the Manor house, but they are very old and some people like the way we have maintained them, some don't. Some of our regular customers request rooms one side of the hotel, some on the other! Personal taste I think.
I have about 650 lady members in the health club, so I am very aware if our cleaning in the Health Club is not up to scratch, I am very pleased with the standard at present, so am sorry you found it not up to standard when you used the pool. It is a great facility and glad you enjoyed the pool.
We hope we can welcome you back to Manor of Groves in the future
