“Brief business stay”
Reviewed 26 February 2014 via mobile

Old style hotel which is comfortable. Bar Meal was excellent - try the steak and ale pie which was crammed full of meat with extra gravy in a dish. Breakfast was varied from juices, pastries and a full cooked English which has set me up all day!

Bedrooms a little dated but clean and tidy.

Stayed February 2014, travelled on business

First impressions on arrival very positive- found the place easily enough and ample on site parking followed by big smile and genuinely warm welcome from charming receptionist. Indeed all staff invariably helpful and friendly. Loved the warm, "period" feel- low ceilings, exposed timber, old furniture, creaking floorboards, open fire in bar, etc. In a place like this that has been altered and added to over many centuries the rooms are not going to be uniform and were clearly not built before en suite bathrooms were expected, so en suites are small, shower only and not that "private". Our first room was oddly decorated, not at all in keeping with the period and prone to noise from the street. WC ceased to work and we were moved to a rather more pleasant room, albeit where again the plumbing was a bit unwilling. Parts of the property, inside and out, could do with a lick of paint- easy for decline to set in to such an old building if neglected too long. Bar areas very pleasant with nice beer on tap, good bar snacks (tasty, substantial and good value) and reasonable restaurant- not exactly fine dining but a fair choice and we found something to slake our thirst on the wine list. Nice breakfasts. Good value and we would stay again but ask for a quieter room- creaking floorboards are fine and part of the charm but ululations from the street are best avoided if possible.

Room Tip: Preferably not overlooking the street

We stayed here over the valentines weekend on a voucher deal (thanks to my kind in-laws) and the hotel itself is a lovely old coaching inn which was full of character in the main parts. My only complaint was that our room was at the front of the hotel, opposite what must have been the noisiest, busiest pub in Leominster! We didn't complain to the hotel because that obviously wasn't their fault and we were on a voucher deal so we thought that those rooms are probably reserved (although it does mean that we are unlikely to come back). The staff were absolutely lovely and really friendly and the breakfast was great too - definitely go for the brioche with salmon and scrambled eggs. We just didn't get much sleep!!!!

Room Tip: Try not to get room 3 on the second floor.

Old hotel, but lovely and charming in character.. we arrived and tv was not working and within 15 mins the manager moved us to another room with flat screen tv, we were impressed, after going out for the day and most of the evening we returned at 9.45pm to find our bedroom was directly above the function room, the noise (base music) was awful, my hubby went and complained and after 1 hr i went down to see if it could be heard down at reception, on my journey i came across the manager who straight away accompanied me to my hotel room, he was flabbergasted at the noise and offered to move us, but it was too late now, then he offered us a bottle of wine to enjoy, but we both declined this aswell, he appologised . Maybe that's why rooms 23,24,25,26, were empty. Don't stay in these rooms if there is a function on... The music went off at 12.00 midnight and then we had a wonderful sleep. very nice manager and yes we would stay there again..

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms above the function room ..

My partner and I have just spent a very enjoyable weekend staying at the Talbot Hotel in Leominster. The staff were very friendly and accomodating, nothing was too much trouble for them (we even left a mobile phone charger in our room, when checking out, and after noticing on our return to Bristol, called the hotel to check. The receptionis was fantastic, checked with the housekeeper, then called me back to say it had been found, and she was posting it on to us!).

Our room (11) was on the 2nd floor corner of the hotel, at the front, and had windows on each side which made it feel bright and roomy. It was well furnished, and the heating was perfect.

The bar/lounge area was very comfortable, with a well stoked bar offering a good range of wines, spirits, and real ales.
It also featured a large open log fire which was lovely and welcoming, particularly after a day spent in the cold wet weather we experienced!

The choice of breakfasts were extensive ranging from continental, full English, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, or smoked kippers and poached eggs etc etc - all prepared using tasty good quality ingredients!
We will definitely return, as this was a pefect base for touring around the surrounding area, and returning to the comfort of the cosy hotel.

Room Tip: If you dont mind being on the road side of the hotel chose corner room 11
