“A little pretentious but does not hold its own.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 January 2014

The food was good. There was some potential in regards to a few dishes but frankly the level of service and food did not match the prices. I paid $17 for lobster ravioli. The ravioli were wonderfully decorated by under cooked. The ravioli's were tough. My dining mates were certainly not blown away by the food. The deserts were in the range of a chain restaurant or Costco. The Godiva Cheesecake had hershey's syrup as a decoration. The value was just average. Either travel towards Toledo or just hit a burger joint in Waterville or down the street from the Mill house.

One last comment, the soups were plentiful and sounded interesting. My turtle soup was very good.

“Interesting Evening”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2013

Went to LaRoe's on December 21, 2013 for the Christmas Dinner Theater. Dinner was a buffet with a salad bar. The buffet featured several meat choices, roasted potatoes, rice, and beans. There was, also, a desert table. The entertainment was good and included a fair amount of audience participation. The service was poor with too few wait staff available. We were seated for 20 minutes before we were able to flag down a waitress to order drinks. During the 4 hours we were there, we only had 2 other chances to get drinks. The two cups of tea that I had were warm, not hot. This event is held upstairs and those are steep stairs with a curved, slanted step part way up. The handrail is on one side only. There are bathrooms on the second floor.

“Friendly service, inviting atmosphere, average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We visited this restaurant Saturday night...the owner seated us at the only available table...
The restaurant was full to capacity...service was good, food was just average, and the
Salad bar small and inconvenient to serve yourself...

But, the place was full and everyone having a great time!

“Nice View....and that's it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2013

Our reservations were not honored, as has been noted in several other reviews. We arrived on time on a Friday evening and were offered bar seats while we waited for dining parties to finish. We chose to just sit at an empty table in the bar room to eat. The host/(owner?) offered us a peek at the patio after our meal and suggested we have our desserts out there. (He should have comped us desserts, because after the quality of the food, we wouldn't have spent the money on sweets, just to sit on a buggy patio and see the water in the dark.) Drinks from the bar were okay and not over-priced. Since the bartender was our server, she had her hands full with the bar drinkers and bar diners, so service wasn't terrific, just okay under the circumstances. We ordered four different entrees. The fish dish "sole"--listed as a signature dish was very "fishy" tasting and the stuffing was just mush. The butterfly fried shrimp were "fine" according to the shrimp eater in our party--"about what you'd get if you bought frozen shrimp at Kroger." The broiled chicken breast was "good" according to the eater, and the 6 oz steak and shrimp combo was just "okay." The steak was "like a cheap cut mom would cook under the broiler." The accompanying shrimp were like those at Applebees in the 2 for $20 special, just more $$. The starches were all fine, and the salad bar was just awful. At the end of the meal, one diner in our party flicked an unidentified insect off his arm and onto the table, where it disappeared to the underside, so we chose to believe it was a spider (many on outside of building under the lights) and not a cockroach. We departed quickly thereafter without any plans to return to eat. It seems the owner has a nice spot with a view, and the place has a historic look about it in a quaint little downtown area. This place is rated #1 on Tripadvisor, and it may very well be, given the size of the town. If I owned this place, I'd either hire a good chef with a new menu and charge accordingly, or turn it into a first class drinking establishment with bar food. (People don't expect much out of bar food.) This is NOT a fine dining establisment. The drinks WERE good and there's a nice bar area and a great patio.

“What do you prefer??? Choice is Yours???”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2013

I have not been a big fan of La Roe's ever. But today something about the nice weather, the patio out back, the music and the company made for a wonderful dining experience.

As stated in other reviews their food is average at best. But you can go somewhere else if you want SUPERB. Or you can sit, relax and have good food in a wonderful little town in a beautiful setting. The service is wonderful.

The choice is yours.
