Booked for 2 nights via late rooms. Was phoned by hotel at 8:43pm on the night to say they were double-booked and couldn't honour the booking. Was forced to book nearest affordable alternative (Rugby)
When I arrived the second night they nearly tried to charge me twice, and couldn't honour my request for a smoking room (they do have them available at least).
Room was at least clean and comfortable.
Extra star because they have smoking rooms, but not a good experience overall...

The hotel is clean, does have smoking rooms available which is bonus. Shame the housekeepers don't use air fresheners, as they would definitely enhance the atmosphere. The cleaners are really nice hardworking girls and it shows in the standard.

The reception team, do seem to struggle at times, and some are more freindly than others. however, one cannot judge all by the actions of one. The management teams are helpful and do what they can to help your stay.

Now for the drawbacks. The showers are not great, and surely could do with some investment (new shower head !! ) in this very popular hotel . They surely need some upgrading of these, Not hard to do, but seemingly not a priority for the company to enhance guest experience. The hotel has seen many better days, yet the team do their best to keep it going with what they have. It has a budget hotel rating, but they do try to ensure its not run like a budget hotel and try their best to enhance a polite customer experience. It is fair to say that some customer are just plain rude without any need or provocation. Typical of the UK, You get what you pay for, if the showers were decent then this hotel would be the top of budget hotel in the uk. Would be great if Welcome break would try to at least show some small investment to address this ongoing poor service they take from the customer. Typically of Welcome Break, rip them off and as long as they pay will keep it going as it is. About time the Welcome Break got off its backside and started to think of its consumers, that is not local manager fault but is way above them, You write to the higher people and get ignored, so do not waste your time!

Just be aware not he hotels fault locally and no use shouting at them.

The other drawback to the hotel is the service area it is located on. The quality of the food is poor is at best ! the staff customer care is at best poor ! that is pretty much the same at anytime. Some of the staffs command of english is not good so be sure to make sure you order and get what you order. Hardly ever see a member of staff smile at anyone, they hate their jobs with a passion and it shows. (applies to service area only not hotel) To eat healthy is impossible and if it were possible bring a bank loan with you. The presentation of the staff in general is poor, personal hygiene may be ok, but the uniforms are a disgrace and should not be allowed. However, seems acceptable.

On a lighter note, stood next to service duty manager when he clearly said, in front of customers and staff, anyone who stays here must be mad! its a ****hole !!! clearly he loves the place,

But bearing the drawback in mind, I will not choose to stay anywhere else locally as the staff in hotel in general are great, the rooms clean tidy, and what you would expect. Compare it to like of travel lodge and surely the cleanliness is way better. and the rates are better too

In summary : do not expect a great shower, do expect a warm welcome from staff who are fun and freindly and if they are not then do not be afraid to let management know in writing, as they do care about it.

Do not bank on having a great eating experience here on any level, its over priced, and the quality is far from good.

These for a weary traveller means its a good place to stay to be sure of good night sleep in clean room comfy beds.

So come with these expectations and you will have a great stay, expect a 5* hotel and you will be disappointed.

Would I recommend it, Yes, despite its failings, it still a good choice, and a very popular one too as access into central london is good and fast. on trains etc.

Room Tip: any rooms are clean and comfy - exec rooms ar slightly bigger, but only useful if longer stay.

Wasn't expecting too much - I am away regularly with work and was looking to save the company money. Whilst facilities overall are OK - Free Wifi, Free parking, KFC next door etc the quality of the room was awful - as I was on the ground floor and the windows could be opened - previous occupants had been smoking - the room smelt terrible. It was also very dirty and in poor decorative order. I did mention the smoke to reception but was met with indifference. If you are going to stay here would recommend an upper floor or maybe the 'executive' room. I have three other bookings here which I'm cancelling and will be looking elsewhere.

The Premier Inn at South Mimms was full so we thought we would try Days Inn on the same motorway services site.

Despite being busy we were checked in very efficiently. The vehicle is parked in the front of the hotel, there is no barriered private or secure area. There is an ANPR method of ensuring you pay no fee for parking on the services area for more than the designated time.

The room was pleasantly surprising, it seemed to be a mix of a Premier and TraveLodge room with familiar elements of both. We had an executive room which gave us a work as well as dressing table. There was a fridge and all the amenities you would expect. The pathroom was fine, clean with nice touches here and there.

Initially we thought the bed was good. Not too firm - something we can say about Premier inn. But in fact the bed was quite worn out, the springs could be felt through the mattress surface and the support on the sides had failed.

The night was very warm. The room was too hot and had no cooling system. If we had been staying longer we would have asked reception for a fan. But we had to open the windows wide to get a draught (and one was found to be without the usual stay to prevent the window opening wide enough to fall out. With the windows open the noise from the M25 was very loud.

This may sound a little negative and picky, but they were points which detracted from what was a surprisingly good quality/value room. And added to the fact that breakfast facilities would have been in the Services area and not a dedicated hotel restaurant means we will probably keep Days Inn for when PremierInn on the same site is full.

We will go again, but only when Premier Inn is unavailable.

I stopped overnight on my way to London. Booked online in the afternoon (£48) and turned up later that evening. Paid for room at reception.

Free car parking at service station for hotel guests. Make sure you register though as registration plates are captured by ANPR.

Comfortable room n 1st floor with double bed and sofa bed. Free wifi and freeview TV.

Bathroom was generally good with exception of the shower head which could do with a deep clean.

Other than that, would happily return to break up a journey. Discount voucher give at check out for booking again.
