“Sour taste”

Friendly bar staff and an enjoyable evening were sadly tainted by accommodation issues having stayed overnight in the guest rooms. Inconsistent and largely unsubstantiated accusations made by the management of The Greyhound left a very sour taste. Would not recommend.

This is an incorrect assessment of our business due to soiling and damage of the mattress as we have now received a contribution towards a new mattress from the customer.

Stayed at the Greyhound after a very long and tiring days walking. Very friendly and helpful staff who really looked after us and made it feel like home from home. Great real ale and excellent rooms. Very much enjoyed our stay. It was also very nice not to have a full english breakfast for once and to have a more interesting and healthy breakfast.

The food is excellent, much better that your typical country inn and the best we had in a week of walking. Reassuringly limited specials board, all tempting and freshly made. Busy with groups when we stayed, so book ahead at busy times. Rooms are fine, just off the restaurant. But what made is was the owner/staff, nothing was too much trouble. We wanted to leave earlier than breakfast was served so they gave us a breakfast 'doggie bag' to have when we wanted. They also helped to locate some delayed luggage for us, it was our issue not theirs, but they put a lot of effort in to resolving the matter. Nice people, they deserve to succeed.

Room Tip: Book early, they get deservedly busy.

My family recently lost everything in a fire and the guys up at the Greyhound took us all in, put a roof over our heads and generally looked after us.
The staff are all really nice, extremely polite and helpful. The food was absolutely fantastic and there was also something new on the menu to try.
We stayed for approximately 3 weeks whilst we waited for alternative accommodation and within a couple of days it felt like home. The rooms are very comfortable and always kept clean. I would happily stay there again and now eat in the restaurant on a regular basis.
Thank you for an amazing experience.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality and value of the food and drink. Friendly welcome, good service and nice walking nearby. Recommended alternative to pubs on the Ashridge side of the valley. Didn't stay overnight ....

Great welcome and shown to our rooms close by the dining room on the ground floor. Rooms clean and comfortable but adjacent to and on same level as cars parked immediately beyond window. Not a problem once the curtains were shut in the evening. Only here for one night but the menu was the best we had seen all week across 6 one night stops. Quality could not be faulted and neither could the staff who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Potential diners were being turned away if they had not booked because the restaurant was so busy. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Hotel staff very welcoming. Food was great, with meals being very ample! However only a Continental Breakfast was served. It would have been nice to have a hot breakfst on offer. Location was good. Our room was a good size, comfortable and clean. Would return for another stay.
