“Good Greyhound”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

We go to this unpretentious country pub regularly. It has a nice atmosphere and serves good food at a reasonable price. It's reputation is getting about so if you wish to visit at the weekend best to book early or they will be full up.

Room Tip: Haven't stayed myself but have heard good things about it.

Thank you very much Natilee and Andy for hosting a fab Elvis/ Rat Pack night in our local pub. What a way to kick off the festive season! The act was brilliant and the buffet delicious and plentiful. Thank you to all your bar staff in making sure we didn't have to wait for a drink all evening despite the pub being packed full of people. Great atmosphere and lots of fun. Will be back very soon.

Visited this pub whilst walking for the day. Asked if we could eat (it was lunch time) and were met with 'no reservation, no food' reply! There was plenty of room at the bar and in the garden - surely not beyond the wit of man for the chef to knock up a couple of sandwiches or extra plates of lunch! Not even an offer of a packet of crisps as a consolation prize! Clearly meant for local people only who know the rules! Would not recommend based on officious staff and frosty atmosphere.

We sincerely apologise for having to turn you away but due to all our food being cooked to order, our kitchen capacity and a fully booked restaurant we were unable to serve food at that time.

We advise all our customers who come from all different areas and are made extremely welcome to book to enable us to keep high standards and not compromise on quality or service.

We've lived in Wigginton for 16 years and The Greyhound has changed hands at least half a dozen times during that time. Finally its become a pub we enjoy going back to (instead of having to drive to the next village). Really excellent food at reasonable prices and friendly service differentiate The Greyhound from most of its local competition. Chef Andy turns out restaurant quality food from the small kitchen. Despite having plenty of dining space, they will turn customers away when they are too busy, rather than compromise on quality.

Friendly bar staff and an enjoyable evening were sadly tainted by accommodation issues having stayed overnight in the guest rooms. Inconsistent and largely unsubstantiated accusations made by the management of The Greyhound left a very sour taste. Would not recommend.

This is an incorrect assessment of our business due to soiling and damage of the mattress as we have now received a contribution towards a new mattress from the customer.

Stayed at the Greyhound after a very long and tiring days walking. Very friendly and helpful staff who really looked after us and made it feel like home from home. Great real ale and excellent rooms. Very much enjoyed our stay. It was also very nice not to have a full english breakfast for once and to have a more interesting and healthy breakfast.

The food is excellent, much better that your typical country inn and the best we had in a week of walking. Reassuringly limited specials board, all tempting and freshly made. Busy with groups when we stayed, so book ahead at busy times. Rooms are fine, just off the restaurant. But what made is was the owner/staff, nothing was too much trouble. We wanted to leave earlier than breakfast was served so they gave us a breakfast 'doggie bag' to have when we wanted. They also helped to locate some delayed luggage for us, it was our issue not theirs, but they put a lot of effort in to resolving the matter. Nice people, they deserve to succeed.

Room Tip: Book early, they get deservedly busy.
