it's not the best Italian food I've ever had - this was when I went to Italy itself - Lake Como and Venice. The decor in the restaurant is nicely done, Francesco is a good cook who serves dishes hot, quite quickly and good portions. The Drink prices are reasonable and good selection, the food is on par with other Italian Restaurants in the UK.

Couple of - points; when you receive hot dishes - it is extremely hot (temp) and you need to leave it a few minutes, also restaurant was very hot and couldn't tell whether there is any cooling or air conditions; the view outside is not all that nice - a car park and some skips which mar the whole experience.

Good Points - The resturant is family run; good portions and all home made and reasonable quality.

For more typical Italian Resturants; recommend London Leicester Square or Restaurants in Italy itself.

Francesco himself is a real character, and the lady maitre'd always adds a delightful Italian charm to each visit. I'll be back :-)

At Francesco's you are always guaranteed a warm welcome from Francesco (a large jolly Italian) and his wife. The surroundings are cosy and informal (if you are expecting the plastic corporate decor of Pizza Express et al you will be disappointed!) as you would expect from a small family run establishment. The food is all cooked to order and thus Francesco is more than willing to adapt (where possible) the menu to meet the diner's requirements. Enjoy!

It's not the best Italian food I've ever had. The surroundings aren't the best, but there is something honest and earthy about this restaurant. It feels family run, which is an unusual bonus these days, with all the other mass market (boil in a bag type) chains.

Francesco himself is a real character, and the lady maitre'd always adds a delightful Italian charm to each visit. I'll be back :-)

I have never written a review on trip advisor, but felt compelled to today having visited Francescos this afternoon. We had to wait over an hour for two pizzas, I asked for a diet coke but was served what I can only assume is Aldi's version, although charged standard price of course. The food was edible just about, but what topped off the entire experience was the bare faced rudeness of the gentleman host. He waltzed around the restaurant repeatedly on the premise of apologising for the lateness of the food (clearly we weren't the only ones waiting) but in actual fact was utilising the opportunity to insult people, make them feel awkward and tell them that they were waiting because all food is fresh - no excuse and clearly a bare faced lie anyway! I am a huge advocate for supporting local, independent businesses but please anyone wanting italian in Tring...just go to the chain one of the high street...sadly an unfortunate truth that it will be a much more authentic experience! Not all hope lost though, this restaurant should certainly apply to be on Gordon Ramsays show - it truly is the ideal candidate.

Francesco's is the lost Italian restaurant beloved of my childhood, all red-checked tablecloths, candles in chianti bottles, mural paintings of Venice on the walls, framed pictures of family, and warm, friendly, concerned service. My family all enjoyed their pasta dishes very much. Best of all, Annarosa was unfazed by my multiple food intolerances, concocting a custom dish composed of things I could eat with lots of flavour and evident care--such a change from how restaurants usually treat the food-intolerant, and especially chains where everything is out of a packet and the staff have little idea what's in it. Francesco's is the real thing, like going to Nonna's house for dinner: simple, straightforward Italian dishes cooked from scratch from the heart. A cosy, welcoming home from home in an otherwise completely shut-down Tring on a Sunday night. We will be back!
