I booked a room for business and is a spacious hotel with excellent and spacious rooms. Breakfast is excellent, fresh fruit, cerial, cooked breakfast and continental. Dinner are good both in main dinner and bar (although limited selection) and bar has a good range of drinks. Price is ok for both food and rooms. Hotel has good bathrooms, shower, hot drink facilities, free biscuits and free fast and Free Internet - unlike other hotels that charge an arm and a leg.
As other said hotel is similar to downton Abbey and the staff are very kind, pleasant and approachable.

Only couple of minuses the hotel car parks can get a bit busy couple of days when events are held at hotel and nearby, need a car and taxi to travel to local town Twing as there are no real footpaths from hotel to Twing and the entrance to hotel is not marked from Cow Lane or Station lane (60mph road) until last minute - quite easy to overshoot the entrance.

Can say anything about the swimming pool and gym - bit too busy to go in the evenings.
Agree with others some rooms are difficult to find - and it is a bit of a warren to find your way about.

Room Tip: Phone up to get a cheaper room than what is being shown on web site and good booking site online.

We booked an executive room because some of reviews are critical of some of them. It is huge if a bit downton abbey! Dinner was excellent and has gym pool etc. nice views when sun shines. A little further out of Tring than it seems so cannot walk into town. Would definitely stay again but checking out your room is probably the most important. It is a bit of a warren to find your way about. Very friendly staff for a hotel this big which helps a lot. Enjoy

Room Tip: Really tough to know which room to have suggest you ask their advice. Second floor has better views...

Just returned from a stay here. Whilst the room was nice and spacious, the staircase up to the room, 203, is threadbare and needs replacing. Carrying cases, the fire door at the top of the stairs is so close to the steps that you have to step back down, with bags in hand, to be able to open the door ! Once in the room, after a long drive, I decided to have a shower. No chance, only a trickle of hot water and NO cold. Ran the bath for ten minutes or more and left it to cool. Even then there was only about 2 inches of water. After that, the TV didn't work either. Spoke to reception as I was going out for dinner and was told it would be fixed. Upon my return, no cold water at all. Rang reception. Next morning, no water at all.
Not many positives to report and I won't be rushing back.

bigweb I am sorry to read of the water issues which you encountered, we are currently working with engineers on the design of a new system that will resolve this intermittent problem which is largely a consequence of the nature of our listed building. In the mean time every effort is being made to minimise the problem, if all else fails we are of course only too happy to relocate you to another room

I didn't stay here by choice, my business partner made the reservation thinking that I will like it. He isn't wrong, the scenes around the place are amazing, the gardens can be a perfect place for all sorts of activities, from relaxing to crazy. But mind me, travelers sleep in beds and that's where the hotel fails big time.
Read, Worn Out, review. It says it all.
Last night, I came late and wanted to eat, the room service had only 2 choices of sandwiches. It seems that I had selected the wrong one, unless the other choice would have been even worse. But when you're hungry you eat anything.
The breakfast wasn't bad.
But the place is too expensive for the quality it offers unless you want to spend your time in the gardens.

raedfar;Thank you for your review, disappointing as it is in many respects.
I am unclear as to what you mean in saying “But mind me, travelers sleep in beds and that's where the hotel fails big time”. In so far as I can ascertain the room you stayed in has a bed that is less than a year old and is a good quality bed from a well-respected manufacturer.
I would be interested to know at what time you asked for a sandwich – it is true to say that we offer a limited choice during the night but this does extend to a choice of four sandwiches as well as items such as smoked salmon, soup with a crusty roll etc.
I would be grateful if you will call at the hotel so that I can look into this a bit further.
On the positive side, I am pleased that at least you enjoyed our gardens.

We stayed at Pendley for a 60th Birthday with family. The staff were amazing they really couldn't do enough for us also the food was brilliant there was no complaints! The rooms are dated however I like the fact that they have kept the manor house traditional. The spa are was the only thing that let the hotel down it does need updating. Overall a fantastic family evening with amazing food.
