“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

We were redirected by another inn after they lost our reservation. The staff at the Salutation is friendly, chatty, co-operative, helpful. The place is very attractive, the rooms functional and welcoming as the same time. The restaurant and lounge are comfy and the food is good. Location of Woebley isn't close to anything but it's within easy reach of Hereford, Hay on Wye, the Welsh borders, etc. Countryside very beautiful. Town is on the Black and White tour and is very pretty and picturesque. We really enjoyed our short (3 nights) stay in the inn and in the region.

We stayed here for a wedding. Arrived and had a delicious lunch. My husband said it was the best haddock he had eaten for a long time. We had chose. room 3 which has a sitting room so that I wouldn't get disturbed when Sir gets up to make his early morning cup of tea. No rush on the Sunday morning when we came downstairs at 10am for a delicious breakfast, very good local bacon and obviously very free range eggs says they were so yellow. Friendly staff and we were only sorry that we were only staying the one night.

Room Tip: Room 3, has a sitting room definitely worth the extra £10

WE stayed on impulse while driving home to mid wales after a day wandering around Hereford. In a lovely village, we were made welcome by staff and customers alike. A little disappointed that Tuesday was Pie and a Pint, or Tapas only. Disappointed only until we ate the Pies!! Really good pies, followed by good puds, and accompanied by a very acceptable bottle of wine. A warm night, so lovely to sit outside on the patio area to eat, then into the bar for a couple of drinks and pleasant company with the bar staff and local customers. A good nights sleep in a very pleasant room was followed by a tasty breakfast, all in all a very nice stay and" we will be back"!!!

We were booked here for one night on our way back from North Wales to Southampton and this seemed a good new place to stopover. The saloon bar was virtually empty when we arrived in the afternoon and we were barely acknowledged when we were shown to our room. Given how hushed the bar was we decided it was a good opportunity to explore this very picturesque (and quite rightly renowned) village of Weobley (pronounced Webley i believe). As we had not had quite the welcome we would have liked on arrival we were on the lookout for an alternative watering hole (we had eaten at the lovely Riverside at Aymestry en route). The only other pub in the village was a sports bar (the Red Lion having been converted to an Indian Restaurant). Reluctantly we returned to our room and after a rest revisited the bar downstairs. A change of staff and customers made all the difference ! Over the course of the evening (Friday) the Salutation came into it's own with locals greeting each other and taking up their reservations in the charming dining area. The waiting staff were very attentive as the place filled up in a short time. Having eaten at lunchtime we were only interested in a light bite and after offering to check with the kitchen they confirmed we could have anything from the menu and even seated us in the comfortable dining room. The omelette and my mussels were just right and good value. It was then evident why the Saultation is popular. After a fairly comfortable night in the twin bedded ensuite (good quality bedding) we had breakfast in the small conservatory area. There was no menu so after some very good quality juice and fruit salad I enquired of the chef (and owner ?) if it was possible to have some smoked haddock and poached egg which was confirmed. This, together with my husband's choice of scrambled egg and toast, was very tasty - and the coffee was excellent ! We came away in a better frame of mind than that of our arrival thank goodness ! There is a small sheltered deck area to the rear through the car park which looked inviting for a dry warm day.

We stayed at the Salutation for one night in early June, having Room 2, the standard double. The inn, like nearly all the buildings in Weobley is a 15th century black and white timbered structure. The bar and restaurant has an open fire and lots of exposed timbers, which, rarely for most pubs, are the genuine thing. Our room was large, with a double bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers and large wardrobe. It also had a two seater settee in a spacious sitting area, together with an electric heater for when the central heating was not on. The flat screen television was not large but could be seen from the bed or the settee. There was a kettle and tea-making facilities with a good selection of drinks, including decaffeinated. The en-suite had a toilet, bath with shower over it and a handbasin. All was clean and the room had a lovely view through the window looking straight down the main street of Weobley. Don't assume that if you are walking about upstairs and you suddenly lurch to one side that you are drunk! The floosr in a building as old as this are certainly not level and this adds to its sense of history.
We were there on Tapas Night. There was a choice of "Pie and a Pint" or Tapas. The couple next to us in the restaurant had pies and they were good portions of home-made pie with large pieces of meat, and chips or new potatoes. We had Tapas and chose nine items from the menu to share between us. The chef was excellent. He came to discuss our choices and we were really pleased with the quality and variety of the food. Highly recommended. Breakfast was nicely cooked with good quality ingredients. The staff were all very friendly and obliging. There was a good atmosphere and we would certainly stay again. Our whole stay, room and food was excellent value for money.

We ate here on the recommendation of our hosts in Monkland while here on holiday. We took the trouble to phone and book because we had our extremely well behaved dog with us. On arrival we went into the 'Back Bar' which is where we were told out booking was, it is very basic indeed with only three bar type tables, there was no record of a booking and our first instinct was to go! However we decided to stay, the food was very good the staff very friendly but we will not be back because we just did not feel comfortable in the little drinking bar with the TV in the corner. If you are intending to visit here with your dog then bear this in mind. There are however many other pubs in the area particularly the Riverside Inn at Aymestry where your dog will be very welcome.

Another great meal at the Sally enjoyed by us all. Considering my 87 year old mother says she doesn't eat very much, she never fails to clear her plate at the Salutation. As always, the staff were very attentive and efficient.
