“Great atmosphere, Great food, Great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

I have frequented the Duke Of York many times, and always enjoyed my visits. Booking a table for 6 after a Channel passage from Cherbourg - no problem.

I have meant to write a review so many times for the pub, so after a crew member mentioned he had the best fish and chips, it had to be written. Keep up the great work !

“Good atmosphere, average service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014 via mobile

We dropped in for a weekday lunch, very quiet when we arrived but cosy atmosphere. Lots to choose from in the menu and specials, fish and chips were lovely but other food seemed cooked from frozen and deep fried. High chairs are available but otherwise not very child friendly as no baby changing facilities.

“Dinner in Cowes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

We were a group of ten guys on a stag sailing weekend in the Solent. On a local recommendation, we dined at this pub/hotel. The menu choice was extensive; the pricing for meals and wine was very competitive. The portions were huge; notwithstanding a hungry crew; some of us, simply could not finish all that was put in front of us.

“EXCELLENT PUB”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

i ate there recently 2 times in one day with friends, i had the full english in the morning which was lovely served with loads of tea, coffee, toast, fruit, cereals etc. and then again in the evening, where i had a Sirloin steak with veg, chips and peppercorn sauce. It was a great choice, came with onion rings, tomatoes and mushrooms, and i cant fault a thing. My friend had the cod and chips, or WHALE and chips! such a huge portion, beautiful fresh fish and ample peas and chips. The service was great, and the barmaid was so helpful. The owners Barry and Sally came in and introduced themselves to us as we were the last table sat in the pub, and they were such great company. Over all a great evening and would definately reccomend it to someone else.

“Great Sunday roast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

In the past we have a few issues with this restaurant but today we were pleasantly surprised. Although the portion sizes were a lot smaller ( no bad thing actually ) the quality had improved immensely. The meat was moist and tender and the veg was fresh and well cooked. Something has changed and definatlely for the better.
