We visited this hotel as part of a walking group in August and were pleasantly surprised by the space and comfort of the house. Our room was large and airy with a wonderful view of the sea and beach. We slept with the sound of the sea gently breaking on the shingle.
The food was wonderful, the buffet breakfast very varied from cereals, porridge, fruit, croissants, fruit juice, and a full selection of cooked food.
Packed lunches were a part of our tariff and were again amazingly generous and varied.
The evening meal offered about 5 choices of main course as well as several starters and sweets always including fresh fruits and ice-cream. The quality and quantity of the meals was very good and the staff efficient and friendly.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms offer wonderful distant cliff and beach scenery vistas. There was some noise from the...

Working for a hotel booking agency I was a bit wary of what the hotel would be like. Arriving at the hotel staff were very accommodating, confirmation from laterooms.com stated check in at 10.00 we were told at the reception desk this was not the case. Check in was at 14.00, one of the rooms was ready so we were able to go in, we waited in the lounge as we were told they would give us the 2nd room in 10 mins.

We were in a sea facing room, fantastic views of the sea & a bonus there was an outdoor pool.

We stayed there for 2 nights, 2nd day not so accommodating. We went to the pool the lounge area had runout of towels so went to ask at the bar, I waited for about 15 minutes till I asked someone if any towels were available, she said she would serve the guest in front of me then would check. I waited another 15-20 minutes, still no towel, the person I spoke to was not helpful at all, she had completely ignored me went straight pass me to clear the tables beside the pool.

Staff at breakfast were very helpful on both days.

Overall stay was good.

Room Tip: Room 20 was very nice, but is a twin room. Not ideal for couples. (Pool & Sea facing)

We swept up the lovely drive to a striking hotel prominent right on the cliff edge overlooking the sea. Lovely location. A bit unclear where the car park was but found it eventually. Check in was a little bit unconventional as the manager wasn't around to greet us, but found our room via an envelope left in reception. Met the manager later and he was really nice and would go out of his way to help. The room was okay actually considering the price - not a view of the sea but clean with a nice shower although did seem to cut in and out sometimes! It caters for lots of walking holidays, so breakfast was everybody sat around the same tables, which can be a bit awkward if you want a quiet chat with whoever you are with. Lovely old house feel to it which is hard to find in sterile chain hotels. Would definitely return - great views and lots of nice peace and quiet..apart from at breakfast!

We stayed at the freshwater bay for two nights in June.

The hotel is situated high on the cliffs above the beach, it is prominent and views are spectacular.

As you drive into the grounds there is a lawn tennis court, croquet lawn, heated outdoor swimming pool, table football and children's play area.

Parking is enclosed and secluded and within the grounds walled garden.

Check in ran smoothly and we received a very warm welcome from Tony, the manager. We were offered assistance to our room and also helped with navigation of the local area.

Our room (39) had garden views to oneside and sea views to the other. As I sat in bed I had a view across the bay ...amazing. The room was clean and had a tea tray and flat screen tv. The decor is a little dated and the en suite was perfectly functional but again is a little dated. This did not at all detract from our good experience as it all worked welland was clean.

Breakfast was lovely with cereal, porridge, juice, tea coffee, toast, kippers, sausages, bacon, eggs 3 ways, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, fried read, vegetarian sausages and beans. Plus fruit salad ( 3 different melons, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, red current, raspberries, pinapple and cherries) home made jams and yoghurts....something for everybody!

There are steps directly to the beach and maps of local walks.

We needed to check out very early in the morning and the manager arranged a breakfast for us and he went above an beyond.

Dandelion cafe is at the hotel. We didn't eat/drink there but head other guest comment that it was wonderful. There are a number of lounges to plenty of space to relax with newspapers, games or the internet

Finally packed lunched can be provided along with walking packs and the selection includes - cereal bars, biscuits, pork pies, fruit, dried fruit, crisps, kindle mint cake and boiled eggs.

We would definitely stay here again. Fabulous experience and the staff should be proud of themselves!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room...they are worth every penny

We were staying not far away but while on a walk popped our heads in to check out this hotel to see if we might stay here in the future.

At reception we were greeted by a smiling man who could not have been more help to us and he was keen to show us one of the rooms. We liked what we heard and saw and will stay there in future.

Just goes to show the importance of giving a good first impression. He is a great ambassador for his employer.

Room Tip: go for a sea view.

Recently stayed for a week on the HF family walking holiday. Large comfortable rooms with excellent views of the bay. Excellent breakfasts and packed lunch. Usually about four choices of starters and mains for evening meals. Service was very quick and attentive without being intrusive. Very friendly bar staff. My only gripe was that the showers were sometimes cold and the bathroom was a bit dated. Perhaps this was because we all came in cold and wet from our walks and sixty people were all showering at the same time.
