“Fantastic campsite and Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014

My partner and I and our 15 year old doggie have just returned from a gorgeous few days on the very sunny Isle of Wight. We have never stayed on this side of the Island before and will most definitely be back as soon as we can. The campsite is immaculate, the pitches are constantly maintained to ensure the grass is short and if the pitches are less than perfect the wardens would rather give the grass time to recover and not accept casual bookings than to try and make an extra few pounds. The wardens were off site when we arrived which was not a problem as there were instructions on the Reception hut and we had also received an email confirming out pitch. As with any responsible campsite there are some rules and regulations that have to be adhered to, mainly to do with measurements between pitches but this is for Health and Safety Regulations and thus for the benefit of all patrons and certainly we welcome these.
The Wardens Bob and Gaye came to our pitch as soon as they were back on site to welcome us and to let us know where the nearest takeaways, town, dog friendly pubs and bus services all were and genuinely couldn't have been more friendly or helpful but without being 'in your face' or intrusive. As other reviews have mentioned the facilities are immaculate in all aspects including the beautiful dog meadow where you are able to let your four legged family members off their leads for a good old run in a safe environment. We purposely chose a week between the children going back to school after Half Term and before the Isle of Wight Festival and in our opinion chose well, the site itself was very quiet but those who were on site were more than happy to pass the time of day. If you want a full on activity led site with music, entertainment and a clubhouse then you need to look elsewhere, however if you want a quiet relaxing break away in a beautiful setting then look no further. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We spend six days at the campsite. The place and the service are great. Owner moved us to a drier pitch because of rainy days. The campsite is only 10 minutes from Freshwater Bay. It is also a great location for cycling, road or mountain. Owners are helpful and everything is organised to the detail. Great experience

Myself and my wife were walking around the Isle of Wight and arrived at Heathfield Farm late afternoon after the office had closed. We had not made a booking and just walked in and rang the bell for the Warden at the reception. The Wardens who were not put out at the time that we had arrived informed us that there is a backpackers area set up for people like us and told us that we could happily stay the night. This was a godsend for us as we had walked from Wootton, Ryde that day and needed a place to camp. The cost was just £15.00, which is about normal for the Island. The backpackers area is near to the Wardens accommodation and is fences off with a small wooden fence. There are a couple of bench tables, which when back packing is so nice to be able sit down as you don't have space to carry your own chairs. It may seem a strange thing, but being able to get a takeaway and sit down at a table did actually make life seem so nice.

The toilets are nice and clean and the showers are new and warm. Effort has gone into making life comfortable by the Wardens as there are good size mirrors, to be able to shave, which were clean and the toilets smell nice and tidy. There is a new block with showers, toilets and sinks, but both blocks were well maintained.

Even though we were only there for the night and away again in the morning the wardens were able to help with, shops and takeaways, which were in walking distance in about 5 minutes. There is a Coop and a Sainsburys. There is a number of takeaways, but I will say that the Indian takeaway is a MUST, food was great.

There were a number of people staying on the site and very friendly. This was not a noisy site and a great night sleep was had. The grass was well maintained and cut to a good length and even though there had been a bit of rain the ground was not boggy.

We stayed at 4 campsites during our walk around the Isle of Wight and this site came top for welcome, willing to help, site, showers and toilets. I will mention again the benches, so nice to have one night not sat on the floor. I will give them a 10/10 and would come back. When I do my walk again I will be coming back here. For anyone travelling by bus there in a bus stop outside the main entrance and the number 7 bus stops here.

Second time staying here, and would definately return. Always clean, great pitches, and great flower meadow for us doggy lovers to walk them. Plenty of information on hand re beaches, walks etc. A well organised site with lovely wardens who helped out in a very wet bank holiday Monday, to keep their happy campers happy! Which we all were. Highly recommended!! H.Hart and family plus two dogs. Essex. Thank you. No negatives at all!

We stayed for just one night but wish we'd had longer. The site was conveniently located for walks along the coast path, swimming in Colwell Bay and dinner in Yarmouth, with good bus connections. The proprietors were extremely helpful and friendly, and there was lots of information at reception about local activities, services etc. We had plenty of space as there were only three pitches being used, and didn't have to wait for showers or toilets. This may be different in high season. All in all it was a really nice short break and we'll definitely go back.

Positives: Campsite itself is lovely, very clean, in excellent location and great for children
Negatives: Would not advise anyone to stay here simply because of the extremely rude wardens. One of whom swore severely at us. Needless to say after that we left and found somewhere else where the owners were far more friendly.

Heathfield C, Owner at Heathfield Farm Camping, responded to this review, 22 June 2014
As one of the owners of Heathfield Camping we take any negative feedback very seriously. After talking with the wardens (who are my mother and father in-law) they certainly have no recollection of any altercations with any guests. As a family run park we take extreme pride in our park and above all our customer service. Simply put, this "review" could not have happened. The wardens are courteous, professional and extremely helpful to all guests. Why on earth would they go around swearing at paying guests. I would welcome the customer to contact us and reveal who they are. False reviews are extremely detrimental to any business and we urge all perspective customers to Heathfield Camping to read our genuine reviews.

We had the incredible good fortune to choose this site for out first trip to the Isle of Wight with Poppy, our much loved VW camper van from the 11th May. After a couple of showery days the heat wave began and we loved sitting on the grass listening to the bird song and watching the wildlife. There were at most 4 other couples on the site so at times it felt like we had the place to ourselves and the badgers.
There are no hard standings and I know Bob is worried about drainage but camping on grass is so nice after the usual pitches we find where we are sometimes trying to put up an awning on gravel.
Bob and Gaye were very friendly and helpful and I'm sure they enjoyed it not being too busy as much as we did.
This is definitely the best side of the island to be if you like peace and quiet. We had a great time cycling around from Yarmouth, taking our canoe up the Yar and jaunts out to take photos of the sunsets. There's lots and lots of bridleways to explore in this area so plenty of scope for another week's discovery trip next year.
