Taking one Grandson (11) and two Granddaughters (9 and 8) on holiday can be an ordeal for 'not quite as fit as we were' Grandparents but, with the right surroundings, it actually becomes a great pleasure. We realised that we had made a wise choice from the moment we saw the location and style of The Albion Hotel. This initial joy was immediately enhanced when we were checked in by the very charming, welcoming and helpful Stephen at Reception (He even showed us to our rooms). The other Receptionists were similarly happy and helpful. Both of the bedrooms, and ensuite bathrooms, were spacious, well equipped, immaculately clean and with masses of storage space. The view of Freshwater Bay, through the windows and from the balconies, was staggering. The Restaurant Staff (especially Agatta) were friendly, efficient and especially thoughtful when it came to keeping the children happy. There were no other children in the Hotel but the other guests, maybe because the children were well behaved (!), were all kind towards and interested in them. The variety of food on offer suited all tastes and was well presented and delicious.
The indoor Swimming Pool and changing rooms are maintained in immaculate condition and Pool towels are available from Reception.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the children did not wish to leave!!! Congratulations to Management and Staff....you have an excellent Hotel.

We stayed in a large room with a balcony overlooking the sea. The bathroom was also large. Both were clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.
We stayed on half board basis and were dissappointed with the food. The breakfast had no fresh fruit and the dinners sounded more fancy than was delivered. They seemed keen on portion control.

Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased to learn that our accommodation and staff were satisfactory to you. I am of course sad that you were disappointed with the food we serve.
What a pity we were unable to assist you and rectify any problems you may have had at the time!
Our Head Chef is keen to make special arrangements and will always cater for specific requests or dietary requirements. If only we had known you would have liked fresh fruit at breakfast - we would have happily provided this for you.
I will of course pass your comments on to our Head Chef - feedback is very important to us as we use it to refine and improve the service we offer here at the Albion.
Many thanks once again for your comments.

A super location and beautiful hotel.
The staff were fantastic and couldn't have been more friendly. Local maps with walking routes/ trails were printed for us by the office staff - a nice helpful touch as this was only our second time on the Island and we wanted to explore by foot. The office staff were also kind enough to organise a complimentary room upgrade for us as it was our wedding anniversary.
The rooms and bathrooms were huge and very well equipped - bathrobes, hairdryer, kettle, tv. At the end of our day we could choose between a bath or a shower as the room we were allocated had both!
The food was good and the wine list large and varied. The dining room was busy every night but in spite of this the service was quick and friendly. The (head?) waiter was training someone while we were there but this did not interrupt our meal at all.
Our overall impressions were great and we will definitely go back sometime in the future.

Negative points - Incompetent manager, totally lacking in empathy for others with poor people management skills and little respect for customer expectations!! Poor food, very small portions, limited menu choice with food mostly lacking in flavour and very disappointing. On a par with hospital food. Cheap nasty toilet paper and no bin liner in the bathroom bin. One of our party injured themselves falling over backwards from the unlit side door and cracked his head open on the concrete floor, the manager felt it necessary to walk the elderly patient along the side of the hotel and across the front of the building all the way to the reception area after a head injury which required medical attention, instead of entering the nearest entrance. She would also not allow access to the hotel first aid kit by an experienced first aider. She appeared to be the only member of staff that knew where the first aid kit was located. There was also some confusion with the pricing on our stay which the manager chose to discuss in front of my bereaved aunt thus distressing her further. This resulted in the hotel manager threatening to find both myself and my disabled mother alternative accomodation at 8.30pm and 10.00pm on the night before we laid our relative to rest. Absolutely appalling and unbelievable behaviour. Unfortunately this was my first trip to the Isle of Wight under very sad circumstances, spoiled by the Managers insensitivity!!
Despite this there were plus points and these are that the hotel is very nice indeed and is in the most beautiful location. The rest of the staff were very pleasant and always willing to assist. Upgrade your food and Manager Albion Hotel and you will be excellent. I would then recommend a friend!

Isle of Wight Hotels Ltd has asked Tripadvisor to remove this review as it breaches tripadvisor guidelines. Second hand information and hearsay has been used within the review and personally insulting and damaging comments have been directed towards an experienced and well qualified member of staff.
In the event of an accident or emergency, the priority of the hotel management team and its staff is to preserve life and prevent further harm to health. The emergency services were contacted and the correct course of action was followed. No first aid supplies were issued - this upon the instructions of the emergency services.
Problems with pricing should have been reported to the booking office and not dealt with by the management of the hotel where neither the booking nor the payment was made.
Our food is not poor. If there were any cause for complaint about food, then I would have thought it reasonable to report this at the time and to give the catering staff the opportunity to rectify matters there and then.
We are sorry and sypmathetic for the circumstances of the stay, and in spite of considerable effort and excellent customer service throughout, we were unable to satisfy these particular guests on any level.

We booked to stay here once we were on the Isle of Wight having stayed at the Sandringham Hotel and we werent disappointed with their recommendation. The Albion Hotel is gorgeous and the view from the bedroom onto the bay is breathtaking. As the saying goes, you gotta see it to believe it.
The room we had was huge compared to other places we have stayed on our tour of the UK and I am so suprised the hotel only has 3 stars. It surely should be 4 stars at least.
The service was good and we had a nice waiter from the Island of Reunion but the view from the room, dining room and lounge is what really makes the hotel. Nice large clean and very modern bathroom with shower, bath, toilet and basin. There is nothing else I can say really, other than I am so pleased we got to spend time in Freshwater and on the Isle of Wight as part of our tour of the UK.

We stayed at the Albion for a three day break. The hotel package included the ferry crossing from Southampton.
Our twin room was very comfortable with two double beds and a balcony overlooking the bay. The bathroom (with both bath and shower) was huge! My only criticism was that the small portable television wasn't really big enough for a room of that size.
The three-course evening meal menu changed daily and there was always a good choice, with vegetarian options, and included tea or coffee afterwards. The service at both breakfast and in the evening was friendly and highly efficient. A nice touch was the allocation of a table in the restaurant for our entire stay.
The swimming pool & spa is for residents' use only and towels are provided.
There wasn't anything going on in Freshwater Bay in the evenings, but it's an excellent centre for cliff-top walks and enjoying sunsets and inky black skies at night. If you're interested in photography, Dimbola House (just up the road) is well worth a visit.
