“Disappointing”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

We have stayed at this hotel many times and had an enjoyable stay, but this last time was very disappointing. When we arrived the weather was not brilliant but the reception was cheerful and welcoming until we reached our room which was a little bit uninviting and it had a damp smell. We noticed straight away that there was no heating on, which would have made it feel a bit more cheerful and the towel rail in the bathroom was also cold so we couldn't dry our towels ( this was off for the entire stay ) The food was very good although the choice was a bit limited and the staff were very helpful and pleasant until you wanted a drink from the bar whereupon i had to keep calling the barman from reception whenever we wanted a drink. Sadly it is a little tired and run down which is a shame because it has a wonderful location and we have enjoyed staying there many times.

Room Tip: Get one overlooking the sea.

We decided to take a short break on the Isle of Wight to g see my cousin, an artist, in Freshwater and take along my 84 year old mum. We wanted a reasonably priced hotel by the see and found The Albion Hotel in Freshwater on Booking.com. According to the booking website, there were no sea view rooms available but on calling the hotel, this was not so.
We booked a sea view room for my mother and my wife and I had one looking towards the Tennison Downs. Both rooms were well appointed and spacious, each with a large and fully tiled en suite in Art Deco style with bath and separate shower. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the sea view room had a balcony enough for 3 chairs where we sat before dinner with a G&T, looking out over the bay.
My mum isn't that mobile these days but a lift was close at hand and entered from the ground floor reception.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts good quality with a good choice. The hotel has a heated indoor swimming pool that was clean and well maintained, plus jacizzi.
Parking is on site and easily accessible.

We'd certainly go there again and are planning to do so before the end of September.

Room Tip: Se view rooms a bonus. All second floor rooms are good.

All bedrooms have a balcony and a sea view and mine, room 217, was large enough to run round! The bathroom was equally as large with a separate shower which was excellent. The public areas were extremely comfortable and quite sparsely populated when I visited - a very restful weekend. Sadly, the English breakfast would have benefited by having the option of tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding etc etc; the eggs, bacon and beans looked a little lonely on the plate! Even so, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view and all seem to be very quiet.

1 night stay, without breakfast or evening meal was over priced. Hotel clean, quiet and convenient. Very under staffed. Great views over the bay, but rooms were stuffy- despite having balcony to open doors on to.
Hotel looks like it is starting to get run down from the outside, inside is adequate, but starting to look a bit old. Rooms are spacious, beds comfortable. Good stop off point for 1 night. Prices are higher than other simular hotels on the Island.

Stayed at this hotel on and of over the last 18 years and the location never disappoints. Room overlooking the bay is so wonderful. Our room was clean and comfortable and reception was very helpful in asking housekeeping to replace the winter duvet with a sheet and blankets. Restaurant staff very pleasant but some could do with more training. Biggest disappointment has got to be the food. Breakfast was ok but if possible we would opt to dine out in the evening.

Room Tip: Overlooking the bay is a must

Stayed one night while walking the coastal path ,Our room had a great bed and there was plenty was a good size .The bath room was a good size with a bath and shower ,both where great after a long walk. After looking at the menu we declined to eat there and got a taxi a pub to eat ,cost about £4.The hotel was clean and tidy and all the staff we met where fine.As has been mentioned before the cooked breakfast is not the best but was ok..It is in a great location and nothing we saw would stop us using it again.

This hotel has a good room (number 209) and that's about it. The main drawback about this hotel is it's run on a shoestring and as a result the food is diabolical !!!! The evening meal is a set meal with a choice of 4 different dishes, all very cheap basic stuff, our last nights main choice was macaroni cheese and spaghetti bolognese and they wanted £25 per person for the privilege.
The breakfast in the morning is also grim. The fry up consists of
1 rasher of bacon
1 egg
Tiny amount of beans and some toast.
Be very aware of this if you book up at this hotel that you will have to source your food from elsewhere .
Last point ...the fire alarm went off at 4:30 am for 45 mins and the night porter didn't know how to turn it off.

Room Tip: Room 209 is good
